Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

I have a general question for this group and dont post much so not sure if OK to add to this "thread" but here it goes:
Purchased 05 340 last year. Runs great and love the boat. In July of last year we did preventative work had the impellers changed since we were taking a long trip and previous owner said he had never done it. No temperature issues at all. Used a mechanic we know and trust to do a good job. Boat was just launched yesterday and the marina (not who did the work in July) called and said they had to change out the stbd. impeller. I am so shocked that this would need to be changed out after such a short time (prob. put less than 25 hours on it since the change and winterization); I told the marina that I was so surprised and I will inspect the impeller they changed out tomorrow. Could this be an issue with them not winterizing properly? Should I press them on this or is it just "one of those things"??? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

the impellors are rubber and must have water flowing around them constantly. If you start a boat out of water (possibly during winterization) you could burn up an impellor in under a minute.

I have a 5k kohler generator and am wondering if anybody can shed some light on the following issue.

After running it all last weekend, it suddenly turned off on its own. Noticed it had very poor flow when I checked the strainer, so I disconnected the hose from the seacock to the strainer and pocked through seacock while open. Two little rocks came through and then I started getting good flow again.

Now I run the generator and it works perfect for about an hour and then turns off.

Any suggestions what could be happening?

Still not enough water flow. The genny is overheating and auto shutting down to protect itself. Check your impellar. The rocks most likely damaged it. 35 dollar repair.

The rocks didn't make it through the strainer but the impeller may have run partially dry burning it out. It really is one of the easiest job on this boat. 4 bolts on the cover where the intake hose goes into the stern side of the genny. Pull the old one out and pop a new one in with the fins turned the same way as the old one. Keep a spare on the boat.

Thanks for the input, I'll swap the impeller out this weekend and report back with hopefully good news.

Where do you guys keep your beach chairs on board? Any good spots in the engine compartment?

I never found a good spot for regular beach chairs so we bought beach chairs that fold up camping/acordian style. These we store in the aft bench seat space no problem.

Thanks "LG111" ad "onthejob", swapped the impeller and problem solved.

anyone experiencing this? the two compartments in the floor in the cabin where the sump pump is, paint cracking and peeling in these compartments? anyone have this?

So apparently the previous owner of my boat had a little plumbing problem in the head sink. The drain just fell out from the sink itself. It appears to be about 6-8inches long with threads and locking nut. The flanged area at the end that attaches to the sink cracked and that's why it fell thru. Does anyone have the part number for a new drain? I looked in the manual but all I see are these items which don't look like what I have.
1690965 SINK, V/F HEAD ANW 340DA-03
146175 DRAIN ASSY, 1.25" DRAIN W/PLUG PLASTIC
1256593 DRAIN ASSY, STOPPER 1.25" CHR/PLT

Mark I had a similar thing happen with the cockpit sink years ago. I called my best friend Troy who's a jack of all trades, and he came and looked at it and we went to either Lowes or Home Depot, bought some parts, fixed it, and it's been draining properly ever since. So if you know a plumber, I'd try that before shelling out big bucks on "Boat" parts.

Disregard... I was thinking galley sink. The 146175 should be the correct part.

Hi all. Recently purchased a 2006 340 Sundancer Sportsman. The boat has the Smartcraft Guages but not the SystemView. Does anyone have experience adding this option? Would this be a "Plug and Play" system or are there additional sensors that would have to be added to receive the full benefit of the system. Thanks

Re: 2003.5-2008 340 Sundacer Thread

Has anybody had success replacing the head porthole gasket to stop water leak from rain. I have had mine replaced twice on my 340 with no results.
ANYONE? Anyone at all?

Thanks AL

No I haven't had success. Replaced mine twice also. If you finally fixed it please let me know....

Under water thru hulls transducers:

So mine has three under water thru hull transducers (not including intakes, discharges or exhaust) 1) the large fairing block one starboard almost center, 2) a round one dead center and 3) a third one that is round on port up a little higher which appears to possibily be a speed pick up.

Anybody knows exactly which is doing what before I try and trace back wires?

Thanks

On my boat the transducer in front of the port motor is the speed and water temp. I have one in the middle which may have been depth on the original Raymarine system and a third in front of the starboard motor which is depth for my Garmin.

Has anyone replaced the starboard windshield wiper motor yet? If so how do you access and how long did it take.

Thanks
