340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Thank you Bruce!

you guys are great. I get so nervous about screwing something up on the boat.

The tool was there in the hold and worked great.

Can anyone with access to their new style 340 get me the measurements of the aft/transom/lazarret locker door? I am going to see my buddy tonight who does vinyl lettering and would like to give him some rough dimensions for the name.

i have an electronics package on my boat that dates back to 1999. I have wires to the helm for a Ratheon L470 fish/depth finder. the display is fried. my Raytheon Raydata depth finder doesn't work either except for a shallow water alarm, but no display.

i assume I have transducer(s) to support this equipment.

There are a lot of very rocky reefs and lava formations in the shallow waters that we want to frequent and i am nervous about not knowing when I could get into trouble.

most don't recommend radar in Hawaii, but we have one albeit older and monochrome. GPS with waypoints would be great. We want to find dive spots, but we don't fish currently.

we have a Rattheon NAV398 GPS/Loran, but i don't know how to use it or if it is worth investing the time into.

my immediate need if it wouldn't involve being penny wise and pound foolish is to adderss my depth finding needs using the existing transducer. I found a brand new Lowrance X4 pro still in the box on the boat from the PBO. The connectors are a different size than the Raytheon L470, but i wonder if there is splice that would work.

I have thrown a lot of information out there and maybe this should be on the Electronics Thread, but does anyone know of an inexpensive depthfinder that could be connected without a lot of trouble until I can address the broader more expensive issue of what electronics package to purchase?

thank you.

Dwight

Raymarine says I am out of luck and need to punt.

2004 340 DA gunwale rod holder install question...

These are installed in the inner part of the gunnel as pictured below. I want two on each gunwale, one where pictured and the second behind it just aft of the step. Is there any wiring below I need to consider?

Thanks.

I went down to do some work on the boat last weekend. The carpet by the aft berth was wet in the forward starboard corner of the carpet. The area that was wet was only 1 foot by 1 foot and the surrounding carpet was dry. The water appears to be coming from below the carpet because the sunbrella carpet protector was dry until I stepped on it. Any ideas what might cause this?

I just went through that very problem!!! Traced the water leak back to the starboard skylight glass. It was dripping down on the salon settee then running down the salon carpet then ending up in the aft section. I removed that cylinder trim below the skylight, ran a hose over the skylight and that did confirm my suspicion. I called my glass guy and he came out and re-caulked with the thick black stuff that he does his windshields with. Hasn't leaked since.:smt038

On a 2006 340 with 8.1's what size prop do you run and how many blades is it? I'm looking at this boat to purchase and it has 4 blade props on it. Is that standard equipment? Thanks -

I got the bad news today that I have to re power or rebuild the 7.4 mpi's. one was already rebuilt, but doesn't go over 2900 rpms. The second engine has very low oil pressure. The mechanic thinks the bearing is bad because the oil he just put in is smoky and dropped below the line after just two months.

Any words of wisdom?

When the new model 340 came out in mid-2003, the 8.1 powered boats had 3 bladed props. Sea Ray switched to 4 blades sometime thereafter - performance was improved. The stbd prop is an 18X21 the port prop is an 18X21.5.

The most common cause for our model boats, was water ingestion. Do you have new exhaust design on your boat (the one with large vacuum break)? When was the last time you risers, elbows and manifolds were changed?

The prior owner replaced all of the exhaust manifolds. that is the part that supposedly works.

I'm concerned because one of the engines was rebuilt already. the mechanic is saying that he doesn't think it was put together right, but.... How do I know it will be put together right this time. I know buying new engines solves this, but the boat is already 14 years old. i don't think new engines makes it worth any more.
