Recent events affecting CSR ??

Glad to hear you are okay Wayne, good luck with your move. I currently have the flu! I even had a flu shot too!

I will start off by stating the obvious, I'm new here. I follow the information, banter, joking, ect. that goes on between members that have become close to each other during their time here. I enjoy reading what is going on not just with member's boats but also what is shared about them as people. I think that point is crystal clear with how quick Jim (Thanks Again) became the face of this forum to people in need. To me this is an elctronic dock where we tie up, chat for awhile and then move back into our daily responsibilities (Thanks to all for the break). So, I to think the slow down is just the ebb and flow of the conversations. IMHO. I'll row myself back outta here and let the regulars take the speaking planks back over.

Seriously nothing to worry about I would post more but I'm too busy shopping for a portable generator to put on my bow while anchoring overnight. Any thoughts???
I'll join your hijack..... As far as a tiny generator, Harbor Freight has a small genny on sale for about $85.00. I don't know much about small generators, other than knowing the small Hondas are well liked, and quiet. But the HF price is hard to beat. If it breaks, it sure won't be expensive to replace. I just bought a 750w HF inverter, for the ridiculous price of $28.00 (after 20% coupon) and mounted it permanently in my car. My battery is in my trunk, so it made it an easy installation. Works great. So much so, I bought another as a spare.

Have you thought about using a larger inverter, instead of a genny? I find more use for an inverter on the boat, than the genny. Of course, you will have a problem running AC, or other high amp draw devices for extended periods, unless you switch to lithium ($$$$) batteries, or add a couple more standard batteries.

About the CSR traffic, I think it's out a sight, outta mind. Once people pull their boats, they lose interest. I just bought my boat in October, so I'm raring to go, but the threads I'm on, people seem to have lost interest. Oh well, hopefully Spring comes fast!

Danny,
you missed the sarcasm in that one!

Yeah, I forgot about the big CSR portable generator controversy/taboo. Hey, at least I got to put my plug for inverters in.... no pun intended!

I"m not on here much because of all the politcal bashing that goes on here. That get's depressing

Your right tho

I've noticed it too. In my case, I just have lost some enthusiasm, the boat is sitting in a cold shed mocking me because I couldn't do my annual polishing. The price of fuel makes using the boat a pain in the wallet in the warm months, and the water level is at record lows. Thanks to an administration that hates dirty energy (you know, the ones that should be cheap and plentiful) and wants to take the contents of my wallet and spread it to others, most of my boating friends have either sold their boats or are putting them up for sale.....Hell....I have to stop there, as I am depressing myself. Merry Christmas.

If you think it's bad here, you should check out the Chevy Volt forum, which I'm on frequently. Pretty sickening, especially for a Republican!

Since we are going way off topic let me jump in. Did anyone see that the new Ford Fusion is going to come in a plug-in hybrid version in addition to the regular hybrid and standard combustion versions? The way gas is going I am going to consider this type a vehicle (At least a fuel efficient model) when my lease is up on the Escape.

OK - I will try and bring the thread back on topic - I know, no fun - I'm on the site if not daily, almost daily. When I can or have something to contribute, I will. Otherwise, I enjoy the banter and learn from what is shared. I think that during the boating season, there is a more technical or boat specific dialogue and during the off-season, we are all grasping for boat stuff to talk about even though most of us can only dream of time on the water.

I just bought a Toyota Prius, Yes I did, goes against everthing I believe in, I figure what gas I save, I'll burn in my boat!

I would buy a Chevy Volt, but that chould end up like GM's diesel program did in the early 80's I heard that the Ford Fusion was a prius, but have not done any research to to prove that out.

I can't help but laugh at the fact that the guy with the username bigblock bought a Prius!! Too funny.

I just wish I could put my Volt powertrain in my boat. It would be enough power to get me where I have to go on the lake, and the return trip to the dock , burning no gas. Since I'm paying $350.00 a season for shorepower, the marina would foot the total cost of fueling my propulsion. I can only dream.

Yes, this thread seems to be going in about a dozen different directions!

Here's my 2 cents for what it's worth. I do think there has been a big culture shift in our country over the last 5 years. Back in 2007, there was a different atmosphere in this country (and this website). Everyone was "richer" and people worked flipping real estate, taking out cash in their ever appreciating homes and doing other entrepreneurial things. Everyone felt like they could reach for the stars and get there... If someone was successful, we patted them on the back because we knew we were going to get there too. We all thought we could beat Donald Trump. Things came crashing down and the world changed and our country went from celebrating success and aspiring to be successful to a "screw you if you have any signs of wealth." We have created a culture of desperation. Not "desperation" in the sense of buying food, but "desperation" in the sense we will be stuck where we are for the rest of our lives.

I would suggest that the constant hammering of "the top 2%" and divide over the last 5 years makes discussing boating in a widely public forum almost "embarrassing." When was the last time anyone discussed buying a new (not used) boat on here? If someone came out and said "Hey.. check out the new 580 DB I just bought," I guarantee you most people on here would say to themselves "f--- you." Or how about if someone said "I just plunked down $35K on new electronics." ? Frankly, I just don't see how this will ever return in a "public" fashion with people being told over and over they are being screwed by people that can afford a new 30+ foot boat. We've gone from encouraged to take chances and work hard to being p!ssed off because company XYZ has 2 corporate planes (which mind you takes a lot of people to build and maintain corporate planes). I listened to our country's vice president lecture a crowd how "millionaires write off their yachts" and everyone applauded.. Let me give people a clue... the only people writing off boats on their taxes are the people that are probably not millionaires. There is a upper limit of mortgage interest deduction of $1 million and if someone has a $4 million dollar boat and a big house, I'm pretty sure they can't finance it all and write it off... that's the current laws... but this rhetoric makes people believe it and be bitter.

Times today are sort of like of like back with "alcohol" was banned and people retreated to private clubs and didn't discuss it in the open.

I'm not trying to make this thread about "politics." What I am saying is the politics have changed the culture in the country....

My 2 cents.

Gary,

Nice to see you back in action here. I was expecting some sort of pot-stirring comment but you actually penned something that I find thought provoking. Well done!
