Buy American

Is the corporate profit what's most important? I'd argue that it isn't. Take Chrsyler as an example. Before it was Italian owned, it was German owned (Daimler-Chrysler was only a "merger" if you believed press releases). When Chrysler WAS a U.S. company, it was run by executives who sold it a foreign company.

So how appropriate was the loyalty of U.S. the consumers who put a higher priority on corporate profits than local employment?

What about my iMacs... iPhone... and iPad...?

You saying it's not good to buy those?

If you follow the Stassel plan.....we will be calling up China when we need more tanks, guns and ammo, also ....for a multitude of reasons....the U.S. is currently getting it's collective a** kicked in an alarming amount of the manufacturing world.....we, the citizens, need to pull together, figure it out, and fix it now...even if it means foregoing another round of golf.....if we ever, seriously, have to defend ourselves we will need to be proficient in manufacturing, in addition to, exchanging information......I was in Vietnam, I remember well, that feeling, when someone is shooting at you, with a serious intention to f*** you up.....try getting China on the phone then....

I totally agree with the fact that the profit from foreign autos go to foreign countrys. I have heard thousands of times about my FOREIGN auto was built in this country but i think it just a way to try and justify that purchase. This country should also put a tax, tariff, surcharge what ever you want to call it on any auto,or auto part that comes to this country on a ship

you Mercedes-drivin' Commie.

I also have a couple Honda's....

Speaking of which... seems odd the ass-douches on here that are all over "life's not fair because I partied and didn't get a trophy" are the same crowd that buys Honda generators for their boats...

My Cummins diesels were made in the USA... How about those cheap ass headers and outdrive copycats you guys all go out and buy from China? I guess that's OK? I see Packerboy outfits his boat with the cheapest China-made marine electronics... I guess that's OK?

Oh wait... this is where packman and Cornhole dive in and say we should have a "progressive purchasing system" in the US. The losers of the world should buy from China because it's cheaper but successful people should be forced to buy overpriced garbage from a union shop. Perfect.

Damn right, jack them prices up some more, we got people to take care of.

That's exactly why I don't drive American cars. I've rented them for years when I have traveled, and I refuse to pay what they want for the garbage they produce. My car is a 7 year old German car, my wife's is 3 year old Japanese car. Nothing I've rented in the past several years that was American built would hold a candle to them in terms of comfort, quiet ride, handling except a Tahoe we rented a year ago. Nice truck, but I already have an Explorer that works just fine for me.

I would prefer to buy American, but I prefer to drive something that I feel safe in.

So... here's a story fresh on my brain as it just happened to me today.

A few weeks ago my wife went to a big box home improvement store (BoxCo is the code name here) and ordered a new dishwasher for our breakfast area in the house. Old one died... didn't really owe us anything as it was heavily used. So my wife bought a Bosch and paid BoxCo to have them remove the old one and install a new one. We have a big Christmas party here last Friday and BoxCo comes Friday morning to install it. The installer puts it in the hole in the cabinet and then says he can't put it in right because I have granite counter tops and the tabs on the top of the dishwasher can't screw into granite (they can... but you'll break the granite). I told my wife before this schmoe showed up this would happen and to tell him that he needs to side mount the thing to the cabinets. She told him that and he said that we needed some wood strip under the granite blah blah blah... he just left... opened the dishwasher door and the thing would fall over. Not bad for $150 install...

I had someone else come in and install it correctly on Saturday before another party we were having... He read the instructions and moved the top mount tabs to the side and installed it correctly and it's nice and snug... cost... $75.

So today I get a call from BoxCo... wanting to know how my dishwasher install went. So I told them I had to hire someone else to put it in and the guy did not install it correctly. The girl puts me on hold... like she urgently had to take a piss or something. Then the "Install Manager" from BoxCo picks up the phone and says "HELLO?!" I said "hello..." She says "YES?! WHAT DO YOU NEED?!" I told her that BoxCo called me. Told her what happened and she said that I didn't understand how dishwashers were installed. But if I was unhappy, she was not going to pay the installer and I could come to the store and get a gift card for the labor. Whatever... 15 minutes go by... Get a call from BoxCo from the installer who then proceeds to rip me a new rearend for telling his manager he didn't install it right.

So how's that for customer service?! They call me and now I have an angry dude wanting to come egg my house. I think he should go work for Rosepoint Navigation... obviously that's the new way of dealing with customers.

It's really crazy right now out in the customer service area. There is so much venom built up that people just want to shoot you before they help you.

Fore skin, what does this have to do with the topic of "buy American"?

Didn't get enough beer at your union lunch brake today in that crap hole city you live in?

I would prefer to buy American, but I prefer to drive something that I feel safe in.

Seriously? Foriegn manufactures have actually had More safety related recalls than the domestics lately. While you may have had a few bad one's the majority I have driven have been quiet, dependable and stylish. I put 125,000 miles on a 2004 Blazer with not so much as a major problem.

And while the foreign companies say they employ Americans, the reality is that we have traded Detroit American jobs for Southern foreign jobs. When GM and Chrysler needed help, Southern law makers voted against it.....Hmmmmm I wonder why? Because that is where the forgein auto plants are. It was GM Ford and Chrysler that came through for the Country when the country needed them and build the machines of war that got us through WWII.

Now here is the kicker......the profits those foreign companies make, go towards our trade deficit and make Japan and Korea stronger while we get weaker. We can not sell cars in Japan, Korea and other contries like they can here. Their trade policies are so skewed against us it is rediculous.

What I am afraid of is that we no longer know how to make anything and can't. A country that depends on others is doomed......I buy as much American as I can, I know its not much but I try..... You are either part of the solution or part of the problem....IMHO.
Thanks for listening!!

Lowrance is made in Tulsa, Oklahoma. yback~0.gif

isn't Lowrance owned by Navico which has their main offices in Denmark? I would not call that an American company at all. Buying American for many of us that own our own business does not work out well all the time. I have tried to purchase products from only US companies and we had a hard time doing it, first in finding and second in competing with price from others. Once we started buying Chinese made products, our profit went up and we have been doing much better now as many of you say paying the mortgage now. Is the answer to the economy buying on USA made product, I don't think so. As it turns out, the only returns I have had in the last month were some of the products made in the US. Just because something is made in the US does not mean it is worth a crap. Sometimes the CHinese stuff is better made than the US stuff at a fraction of the cost.

I think what most of us buy American supporters are saying is we try to buy American. Its not easy and we probably get tricked into thinking we are buying American made when its really not but its important to us to try. Its a personal choice and I don't understand the animosity unless its just guilt over the choices some have made to not buy American. Not to say that is wrong or right, its just not my choice.

Funny how those who tout freedom on here sure get pissy when some of us decide to exercise our freedom and do something different than what they do. I guess they actually mean freedom to do what they do, not what we do.

I am a member of 2 unions here Electricians and Operating Engineers and Damn PROUD to be an American and a union worker !!!!! Ive owned a Dodge Dakota 318 V8 , sold it with 290,000 trouble free miles , Ive owned a s10 blazer 4.3 liter sold that with aprox.220,000 trouble free miles , I had a ford escort for commuting ,guess what another close to 300,000 miles with 1 trans change , My current Silverado has 115,000 trouble free miles , all my vehicles are well taken care of ,synthetic oils used , and washed regularly , no rust ever !! , My TOY ,my only forign car 1981 Porsche 911 wide body with only 29,000 miles never gives me probs except a rear end , Id never buy a Jap crap car or chinese ever ! ever ! this country was made on UNIONS , I agree some unions are BS like baggers unions and such but plant workers, and the trades are well needed!! We are trained and most of us care about our work and quality , we just want fair working rights and wages , I am a highly trained building Engineer , Ive had 12 years of schooling and still going as technology raises the bar , I have worked many non union jobs and my opinion, most of the non union guys could care less about quality and are hardly skilled , my work sends me to school as well as my union hall !.

Now I understand For Skins problem , he ordered a washer from boxco, most of the installers these stores hire are non union , non skilled guys that were bottom of the barrel bad employees that probably were fired or layed off in todays economy , they dont care, they dont want to learn , I am still employed , guys senior to me have been layed off , BUT I am still working and also run my vent cleaning company on the side ,I care about my customers , The American people , because I am an American ,lol yes i stole that quote from a movie !!

so did For Skin learn a lesson ? probably ,before hiring anyone to do work ,investigate them and get references , or HOW about this, INSTALL IT YOUR SELF !!!!!!!!!

oh and sorry if my grammar sucks ,I just got done drinkin a six pack of Keystone searching for my orange can
