Osama bin Laden is dead!!!

Hey did you hear he had 500 Euros sewn into his Dress, rumor has it he was going to fill up his Sea Ray! :wow:

Pack, gotta disagree with you man. The military works for the American people. The commander and chief is a figure head guided by staff and advisors. Any idiot can say "go get em" once the folks on the ground have gathered the intel and done all the leg work. It doesn't take much guts to pull the trigger when someone else has found the prey and is holding the gun.

Just my opinion.

I respect your opinion.

HOWEVER

In this case, the prey was not found and no gun was at the target's head. There was SUSPICION he was there. Not a confirmed sighting. He was in a major city of an ally - one could easily argue the correct response was to drop a bomb.

No - the decision to send in highly trained soldiers into the heart of another country was the President's.

The decision to have his body dumped into the sea was probably his as well. And I personally doubt taking him alive was part of the base plan.

The President as figurehead? Don't forget that the strategic decision to ramp up the war effort in afganistan was his as well. As was the decision to sack a general (forget the name) who publicly criticized him last year.

OldSkool: Lets consider one thing my friend, who's ass was on the line if that operation went horribly wrong? Yes, any idiot can say go but it takes guts to say go when the outcome has the potential to be awful. I'm not saying he deserves all the glory but he does not deserve the ridicule he is receiving, remember it was a great thing and long anticipated in this country. Why can't we all just be happy that Bin Laden was finally brought to justice?

Your reply reminds me of Jimmy Carter and the failed hostage rescue. You are right on the outcome if this would have failed. I am happy that Bin Laden sleeps with the fishes.
A common ground my friend.

Com, no doubt he was the power to set up and take down generals and to make decision based on national security. I too believe that taking him alive would have caused major up uprising and if sown in the dirt a shrine would have arisen at the site. It would have been more palatable though had Obama taken the "I" factor and turned it into a "we" factor. I guess that's what grinds my bean.

I don't care for him either but I just replayed his announcement and maybe you should too. There are 'We, Us and Our' by the dozens in that speech and very few 'I's'. Put in context I don't feel any of his 'I's' were too much. Again, I don't care for him, but he is the president of my country. I'll give him some respect and credit for carrying on with what was started 10yrs ago.

We are plotting new territory here. More common ground to agree with. I may not think much of the man but the position does command respect.
Thanks Woody.

Anyone else feel it really disappointing that this thread has turned into an argument about the President of the United States. The world is rid of a terrorist, a terrorist that was hated by many countries around the world and probably the second most hated person in history, died on the same day as the most hated person.

On the day he died the world became a little safer thanks to many people, each had a small role that led to the success of a very large successful mission.

Ken

Pack,
I don't think there was an out right attack on the Pres but a question about the time the hit happened and what Obama said. Then it went from there with some of our comments included.

The long and short is that Osama is lower than whale poop today. It was a good decision to bury him at sea. One last thought, just because he hit the water for pubicity sake doesn't mean he's still there. Maybe that's how the DNA has been confirmed.
Just saying. (Stirring the pot some more)

Take care mate.

Re: Osama bin Laden Fish Food

Just like all the lefties on the view, Michael Moore, Bill Mahr, all the talk show hosts, etc. etc. did with GWB, right? If they have the right to think the president was a POS, then I would say that I have that same right as well.

I can't stand those guys either. If we don't have to sink to their level, it makes them look like idiots!
