420 DA Thread

Will be removing the Tracvision, and hopefully installing a cellular antenna, mobile hotspot, & router for streaming/internet. This of course is in addition to all the other little repairs to get her back up to par.

Thanks for the update Jason. Please keep us posted on the cellular setup you're describing. I've long since stopped paying for and using my Tracvision. Would love be be able to access streaming content.

Gents, as promised here is the info on the SeaRay Systems Monitor, with pics!

Part number on the box, and the unit was 1907585. As you can see in the pictures, the new style is made of metal rather than plastic and is much more robust. It was really simple to swap, required basic wiring skills. On the off chance you forget how it was wired, it is shown in the wiring diagrams included in the boats manuals.

Super happy with how far the she's come in the roughly month in a half we've owned her. We've fixed/upgraded so many little things, many found right in this thread. But, the helm is the most obvious:

More to come in the future. Short term, still need to replace the old VHF280 which has no handset. But VHF isn't regularly used on Lake of the Ozarks, so not in a huge hurry. Long term plans include another display, along with a radar. Will be removing the Tracvision, and hopefully installing a cellular antenna, mobile hotspot, & router for streaming/internet. This of course is in addition to all the other little repairs to get her back up to par.

Where did you get lucky enough to find a systems monitor new in the box????

Well that was the easiest thing in the world thanks to the great advice/tip from becnme! On the top, just carefully slide these white plastic clips out of the way, and the top will drop down, and then just pick the grate up off of the bottom clips. They slide too, but you don't have to mess with them.

Thanks guys!

Holy shit....what a pain in the ass.... the top white clips don’t stay in the slots when reassembling.... I wiped off some fuzz off the filter screen and swore for 15 minutes putting it back together....next owner will have to deal with that insanely poor design

Does any one know if the salon foot stools on the 420 were standard with the boat or extra ??? , I see some boats with them but most with out , and if anyone has them, would they be interested in selling them , I figured people took them off the boat to have more room in the salon and probably never gave them back to the boat when they sold it

What I did was remove the whole thing from the wall and remounted it with two screws through the face of the flange. Now I can remove it all easily and then fiddle with those white clips.

I believe the stools were part of an upgrade that also included the adjustable high low table. If you table has a post... then no stools. If it is an adjustable stand alone piece on a heavy base it would have come with the stools.

I have them and have never used them.... I don’t want to sell them ...just saying you won’t use them... I think once we took the table off the boat when we knew we needed to have a blowup mattress on the floor...to sleep 8 kids on the boat

Blue one were you located/docked on Lake Erie , ? We dock in Sandusky oh
I agree ,about the foot stools taking up room . I just would like to have everying that can/comes with the boat

Autopilot question: If I wanted to switch out the Raymarine Autopilot that came on my 2004 420 with a new Garmin system (https://www.boemarine.com/garmin-reactor-40-hydraulic-autopilot.html) could/should I "reuse" the pump that currently drives the rudders when in autopilot? And since we're talking about that pump, where the heck is it? My guess it is somewhere on the starboard side forward of the holding tank maybe? I know where my Trim Tab pump & fluid resevoir is. Am I close? Also, is this a DIY winter project?

There will be more questions on this topic going forward.

Thanks,

Jaybeaux
I had mine set up using the Reactor 40 and even though I ordered but never got the new steering pump, the tech used the old Raymarine one. It worked but I was always suspect since it was 15 years old. I was told, which means nothing usually in marine life, that the Garmin pump was a ton better. Larger and overbuilt. I never had an issue with my setup but if I did it again, I would go for their pump. It's on the starboard side, about 1/3 way down from front of engine and mine was mounted on the wall. Also get to know how to program the Reactor on initial setup. There is a push this first, that next that only techs know (I assume given to them to keep in biz) in order to tune it properly for your boat. I had the steps but tossed the paper I wrote them on after selling. I know I am late to this thread and sold the girl in July but want to help if I can.

Tried to be a hero by doing simple stuff myself for the first time......but it ain't working out as planned.

Changed my Racors last week. Finally found the secondary filters for the 480 CE's and switched both out today. Forgot to add fuel into them before re & re. Still, STBD engine started. Stopped after a bit. Started again and pharted once or twice but then ran fine.

The Port engine, well no luck. Removed the new filter, filled it, spun it back on but not all the way. Pumped the primer button until fuel was running out of the filter then tightened the filter back on. Cranked it over numerous times trying to start it but she just won't fire up. I'm at a loss. Getting unkind looks from the Admiral. Any suggestions most welcome.

Went to close my cabin shade and when it got closed i heard a ping and the shade spring or mechanism broke. Shade is loose. Has anyone seen this Issue and know how to repair?

Lovichka if you are certain fuel is in filter and no air then put your ignition start button half way so your hear fuel being injected. then shut off. Then back on then back off. Do this about 10 times with start button Then try to start.
