Where do you guys place your inverter...if you have one.

I am thinking about a couple of solar panels on the canvas top and an inverter for quick things like coffee and maybe a microwave for short warm ups.

I installed an inverter in my 410 precisely for running the microwave and coffee pot. I installed in the engine room, but mine is diesel. Here’s a link. http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/inverter-install.89992/ . If I had to put it in the cabin, it would have been a more difficult project. These things are big heavy and produce a lot of heat. I went with Magnum Energy, but I would also look at Victron. Cheaper ones on amazon may work as well, but I found an open box at a great price.

Also, Tom (Ttmott) installed one and I used his schematic. The way it set up is the power (either the generator or shore power doesn’t matter) is routed through a new circuit breaker in the main panel to the inverter. If there is power from either shore power or the generator, that powers all AC circuits. If there is no power from either, the inverter jumps in and I have it wired to provide power to only 4 circuitts...basically the outlets, microwave and coffee pot. The fridges and AC systems are completely isolated.

You need an inverter with an automatic transfer switch to make this work.

And bigger battery banks!

I assume they are the 1.5” do you have a link for the ones you ordered?
TIA

I ordered from Marine Sanitation and Supply. I think they are right next to Fisheries Supply in Seattle. $23 for a pair.

Yes, 1 1/2 inch...Dometic 385310076

Thanks, the one I am looking at is not as big...11 x 13 x 2 1/2. Xantrex Pure Sine Wave with automatic switching.

Do you have a link to Ttmott's schematic?

Cheers!

I thought it was in that thread. If not I have some documents at home that I can email, or ping Tom (Ttmott). He has really good (much better than mine!) documentation.

I’m out of town at the moment...

Cheers!

Just for grins I went to the Marine Store in Roche Harbor.

Only $48 for the Dometic 1 1/2 valves...

I ordered some, ended up being low $50’s shipped. Should be here early next week. I don’t have an issue, yet. But I also don’t know when they were changed last, I have had the boat 1.5 years. So hoping to wait til the end of the year

So, I finally found a fix, I am happy with for the ceiling in my master statesroom. I have asked on a couple forums and no one has really had a good description of what is supposed to support it.

the first pic is what it looks like Now, 2nd is What it looked like when I bought the boat. Third is the bracket, that was small and thin enough that you can’t see it.

fix was simple, pull the 3 caps of the screws holding the closet valance then remove the screws, all 3 different lengths, so pay attention. I used the bracket in the corner between the curtain valance and closet valance. Screwed it to the ceiling first, then pushed the curtain valance up as tight as I could along with tucking the vinyl back in.... 10 min fix... I never did find What was supposed to be supporting it on this corner....

Just wanted to share with you all that if you are looking to leverage the 2001 era OEM Pathfinder Chart-plotter, Analog Radar, ST7k Autopilot and ST60 tridata, without a full blown upgrade, that you can purchase the Axiom and Seatalk to SeatalkNG converter and everything works very well.

I set it all up early in the season and took my first trip at length last weekend and was able to use the Navionics dock to dock auto route and the ST7k Autopilot was able to track the data. You can also see the data from the tridata on the Axiom and the Axiom talks to the pathfinder. I installed the Axiom on the side with a Umount. It also replaces your GPS which mine was the RN300, I keep it hooked up as a back-up but just keep it powered down. I am very happy with the upgrade for a minimal cost about 800ish. Below is the parts list. No splicing wires. or having to run power. It all connects and plug in play.

Parts Needed:

Seatalk Cable RUL 4001-138-A 3 pin Seatalk Cable
Seatalk d244 junciton box
(2 above only needed if you want to keep the RN300 GPS in the network for a Backup)

Or just use the RN300 seatalk cable to converter adapter

Axiom 7" with navionics 600ish
Raymarine Seatalkng To Devicenet Female Adapter Cable - 1m $32
Raymarine E22158 Seatalk 1 To Seatalk Converter Kit $84

That’s an awesome piece of information. I have been looking at this upgrade as well. Are you using the radar? I have the Raymarine 4kw closed array and want to replace one component at a time? What about the original chart plotter? Did you leave it in and is it still hooked up? I am going to replace that and put in a new panel as well.

Thanks, Yes, I am still using the analog radar, which is okay, with the pathfinder which is why I do keep it hooked up. Yes you are correct you will need power for the Axiom from the fuse panel it is a easy hookup. I keep the RN300 for a backup. The converter can be powered with the seatalk network. The reason why I shared this is because there is a lot of information out there to splice the seatalk cable and hook into power but it is not necessary! Recently went on a 3 hour trip and the Navionics Dock to Dock and autopilot worked spot on.

Anyone ever have an engine slow a little and then come back? You can see it on the Sync. It was at 3500 rpm...we were making a fast run so we could get into Roche Harbor. Because of the plague, they are not taking reservations.

Anyhow, the Port engine seems to cut out. Could it be the coil?

Thanks!

Did it actually cut out or your tach showed its fluctuating. Both the tach and sync fluctuates.

I see this sometimes but engines are running great and no loss of power.

Had mechanic work on this and it's good now but not sure what he found.

Cheers

Thanks JZ

It does not feel like it loses all power...I would think the boat would fall on it's face if it did.

Maybe just a little loss and a hundred or so RPM reduction.

I'm scratching my head...

Bruce - I was coming back to the dock last night and experienced something similar. There was one quick beep and it felt like one of the motors dropped off for a split second. It happed so fast and recovered immediately that I couldn’t look down fast enough to see which motor and all was good the rest of the way back. Standing at the helm I felt the momentary pause in forward motion but did not see any alarm history on the Smartcraft or Systems Monitor. I’ll watch it this weekend and let you know if I find anything.

Thanks Tripsdad!

I hope I can figure it out. There are mechanics available but I am not sure they will find out fast.

The Westerbeke guy went right to it so I was pretty happy.

You mention westerbeke, I think mine is finally running right. New fuel pump and rebuilt the carb....

Good to know Chris. Ours has been doing well after the new plugs. Going to buy some spares to keep on board. I think I mentioned that we Hoovered up some seaweed and plugged the strainer. It ran funky for a little bit after until it slowly came back. It would have been a cruise ending deal if it did not start working right.

I did see a little sheen of fuel on the surface so I wonder how the carb is doing...

We are in good company here in Roche Harbor. On shore power.

Next to a 2005 SeaRay 38 and a 1998 410...owned by twin brothers. Both are diesel. About a half dozen 32s and 34s scattered about. A few sedan bridge and at least one 510.

Gotta go check the crab pots...catch you later!
