Official 380 Thread

Would love to hear from any owners of Sundancer 380 with CAT 3126 diesels or Merc 8.1 Horizon gas engines...trying to decide between two same year 2002 boats. There is a price differential of $20k more for boat with diesels, but it also has a newly installed bow thruster.
Here's another vote for the diesel boat. The bow thruster is worth an easy 10.

Looking for ideas from the collective wisdom here...

We have the full camper canvas on our boat and it is configured pretty well. Lately, we have removed the sides and back to allow more cooling air to come through.

We also experimented with some shade cloth (a cheap version of the Coolaroo roll up shades) that we can snap onto the canvas top.

Does anybody else go between the canvas and Isenglass to shade cloth?

Open for ideas!

Cheers!

For something marine grade, Phifertex is a shade material. I think it comes in two forms, one blocks more light than the other. Not sure if your going to DIY something or have something made, but the material isn’t to expensive. Sailrite.com has videos on how to make something, and a ton of pictures for ideas.

We get evening sun in the cockpit at the dock this time of year and I considered making a shade that could be hung at thst time of day instead of putting up the camper top.

Thanks dtfeld, We have been on the Sailrite site all morning!

We are fired up about doing our shade clothes and other stuff.

Cheers!

Finally got around to mounting my 32” tv on the aft bulkhead. Haven’t run the power yet but it is only 2’ away so should be easy. I’m turning my old tv cubby into another cabinet for kitchen storage.

Has anyone filled their fresh water tank from empty or close to empty?

I am concerned I may have a leak or bad connection. I left the hose in the filler for over 20 minutes and still did not fill it. I stopped as I was worried I may be putting water in a part of the boat i can't get to.

Curious what the average fill times are from empty.

Thanks,
Vince

It's not time, it's volume. How much water does your gauge show now? Fill a 5-gallon bucket and time it. The water tanks are something like 40 gallons, so 5 gallons times 8.

I agree with the Doc, if you have less flow on your dock hose, it will take longer to fill. I have a 55 gal tank in my boat and it takes around 20 min to fill if it's down to empty.

I just did mine last week, it takes a while... as others said, depends on the pressure at the dock. Find how long it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket, then multiply that by 14 and you will have an idea

Chris, based on your numbers, the tank would have a capacity of 70 gallons. I have great water pressure at my covered slip, much stronger than any home I have been at. Doc with the year 2000 DA indicates his tank is 40 gallons, Sam is at 55 for a 2006. I guess they change things out year to year and I really don't know what size tank I have for my 2002 model.

The bucket idea is a smart one. I just need to find a day where I will be at the dock doing some other work while I let the sinks & shower run and maybe the rear shower as well.

Thank you for the help.... this website is great. I got quick replies with some very good ideas!

My tank said 3/4 and I filled it yesterday. As it was only 3/4, I thought I would watch it so I could shut it off and not get sidetracked and run water overflow for an hour until I remembered.
It sure seemed to take a while!

We have new docks and good flow...it is like watching a pot trying to boil...

Or...it is 3 1/2 five gallon buckets...it makes sense thinking of it in 5 gallon bucket rates.

On another note....

Got the 12V wiring in for the Whynter freezer/fridge. Eventually, I would like to have a cigarette outlet in or near the area under the stairs.

And...I got the wiring for the solar panels done. I "mounted" the panels between the SS rails forward of the windshield vent. They are in with quick release bungie cord and S-hooks. The cables run under the rubber filler in the base of the windshield and down into the narrow locker just under and forward a little of the cockpit sink. The wires to the batteries run right down as the locker is right above the batteries.

I will report in as to how much we are able to keep the house batteries up as we sit on the hook. Trying to keep generator usage to a minimum.

Cheers!

I filled the water tank when it said 3/4 full. It took 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. The new guest docks at Everett have a 3/4 inch line to them so I think the flow is pretty good.

The flexible panels stayed put up on the front deck where I bungie corded them down. Even at 22 MPH they did not flap or move. So far the batteries are at staying charged. We only have run the generator for coffee in the morning.

The weird start issue is still a work in process. I did get a start both times off the dock and what I did differently is to turn off the shore power at the panel before yanking the cord out of the pedestal. Started fine as it did for the electrician in our marina.

Not sure what happens different by turning off the shore power switch.

You'all will laugh at this one...

Owned the boat 4 years now and never used the TV but we are wanting to now. Could not get the A/C outlet to work that powers the TV and stuff. Some head scratching but not a high priority. The sound system works so we were happy.

So last night I was getting a bottle of wine out of the storage under the couch and I bumped the back cushion. Low and behold, there is a whole bunch more storage behind. Oh, and an Invereter!!

Too bad it wasn't loaded up with previous owners booze....

Ha!
