Zyrex bottom coatings

tleeah.....

Glad you're still happy with it.

you're making that warm and fuzzy feeling of mine just a little warmer and fuzzier.

once I get it on my boat and have it there for a while....if I like it..Zyrex will be the talk of the 1000 Islands.:smt038

If I don't like it...well....Zyrex will still be the talk of the 1000 Islands. :smt089

Getting the bottom sand blasted this week. Ordering the paint tomorrow.
Old Vet - Michelle is good but the guy, I think her husband more knowledgeable and he loves talking about Zyrex, boats and water. I know we talked for almost an hour.

I can't wait to get it started and splash her.

Keep us posted,

I have read all 7 pages (and even the pages in the other forum that were linked in the middle of this thread) and this product sounds promising. However, does anyone have a recommendation for bottom painting aside from this product? The boat is a 1997 SR 330 DA that needs new paint. It will be moving from the saltwater of Florida to the Great Lakes. I am seriously considering the Zyrec because it appears to be so hard and I'm thinking it will last a while. It also sounds like it may be more economical.

Max, maybe Interlux. Their hard epoxy. I think for the long run this paint is a good deal. No more bottom painting for at least 7 to 10 years and who knows maybe longer.

:wow:"No more bottom painting for at least 7 to 10 years and who knows maybe longer. "

Well....we're sure hoping anyway. :smt043

Time will tell I guess.

Max Power

The Interlux products are what I hear everyone around here talking about.

I have to confess to being relatively green when it comes to boat bottom treatments....but I'm not green when it comes to trying to save a few bucks. And West Marine had me racking up a heck of a bill for their Interlux products......easily twice what this Zyrex is going to cost me.

So....I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm quite sure it won't rot out the bottom of my boat and if I get any sort of lifetime and performance out of it....I'll feel I'm ahead of the game compared to having to repaint every couple to maybe 3 years.

I think you will be really impressed at how hard the paint gets over the 3 day drying time. After 24 hours, I was wondering about the hardness, but after 3 days, man does it harden up. I cannot wait to hear everyone else's reports. I will try to post some pictures of the paint in the water. It looks good and clean.

Cannot wait to hear your reports!!! I think you will be happy with it. Make sure to strap her down when you put back on the trailer. It will slide easily, mine did just moving it around slowly.

Well, I just had my Zyrex coated bottom cleaned by the diver at the marina. He said it took him less than 20 minutes to complete. All he used was a sponge. He said on the sun side (starboard) water line needed a little more "elbow grease" than the rest, but was really easy. He was astounded, because he had just cleaned a 25ft sailboat that took him almost 2 hours. It looks really good. That was the first cleaning this paint job has had. The Zyrex has been on for almost 3 months in 10 days. I hope this report helps, I still have the speed and really happy with the paint.:smt038

I thought all you had to do is get out and run her on plane and the slime just falls off?

I had not run the boat in a while. When you do not run regularly, they recommend to have it wiped down. My transom showed growth, so I had diver wipe it down and examine the bottom/paint. The transom has to be wiped down because it gets no pressure on the surface when running.

Good point!!! I just ordered the soda/sand blaster for Friday. Hopefully the paint will be here by next week. Can't wait.
Who did applied the paint on your boat? If not you did you watch? If you how did go for you?
Thanks,

What blaster did you order?

Doug

Probably worded that wrong. I ordered to have a guy come in and do the blasting. I am on a military post so we have to get permissions and approvals. If it proves to be worthwhile venture, blasting and Z-painting I may do it as an income next year.

Well, I put my order in today for 5 gallons of this zyrex, Hope its everything they say and then some, lol. Cant wait till its all on and sitting in the water again. Should be appx 5 weeks till we set her back in her slip.

Thanks,

I had one of the local boat yards do the work. They removed all existing bottom paint and barrier paint off to the gelcoat by sanding. He then stripped with acetone. He spent alot of time in the prep work. Pm me and i can send you his name and contact. I'm sure he will give you good tips. He is prepping a Chaparral for Zyrex right now. It was real convenient for me to watch most of the process because the yard was within walking distance of my house. The guy who did the work educated
himself on the paint and followed the instructions well.

Who are you having do the work in St. Joe?

I will be doing the painting myself. Hopefully start here in a week or two. I will post pics after I'm done. I will be using my new shurhold buffer and give her a nice fresh look for the season between coats of paint

For those putting Zyrex on the bottom you may consider checking out propspeedusa.com and look at that product for the running gear. I have no bottom paint on the props, shafts, struts or rudders and the little barnacle critters waste no time taking root. From the video it looks like this stuff acts just like Zyrex, only its for the moving parts or metal parts etc. Tankers are using it along with everyone from 100' yachts to smaller boats sitting in the water. They have some good video and pics to look at. It looks promising. I may try Zyrex in a couple months after researching if people like it here in this climate/saltwater AND use the propspeed too. Nothing can be much worse than the current ablative paint on the bottom and nothing on the gear anyway.

Cool stuff!!! I think the drag boats use something like that.

I've been running Prop Speed on all my running gear since August 2007 and while the cost is fairly high about 600 installed on twin 23" props and running gear, I believe it is worth it. If you're prone to getting into sand you might not want to spend the extra money but Gimme Time certainly likes it.

A friend whom owns a 340 couldn't hardly believe the condition of the hull and running gear when she was hauled and pressure wash last fall for the winter. Hadn't been pulled or pressure washed since April and still looked great.

On another subject I wouldn't let a diver scrap my hull. I prefer have her hauled and pressure washed twice a year as I can always see how things look. While most divers might do a good job, how can you tell other than what you think you got when you're up on plane. Me I want to see what I got for my money.
