Zach's bay Memorial day weekend

I've been floating past the new bar every weekend for the past 4 Weeks and it.looks. Nice. Been wondering what was going on with it.. now I know. I've pulled up to the docks on the south end of the nautical a couple times walked to the bar, had a little to many and stayed overnight hooked up to power and there was never anybody there to collect the fee but this was last summer and not on a holiday weekend but mayb talk get lucky

I've been thru Jones Inlet and you will be fine. Either high or low tide. Just follow buoys. When entering Jones Inlet you will encounter your low water warning going crazy.
Just a low area and you will see breakers as you enter. Proceed and the skinny water gets fatter as you go forward.
D\Good luck and I am channel 68 for any assistance. My Girl is the vessel. See u!!

they are mostly there on the weekends in the summer only to collect money

I have never seen anyone at the south end of the nautical mile.
My guess is that they may start to collect $$ on memorial day. The docks are new and seem to be very underutilized.
The floating docks by the schooner restaurant have been repaired and are also floating docks.
I think 4 or 6 spots. Halfway up the canal the municipal docks are modern floating docks, but i fear that your yachts may be too large and extend too far into the canal.
one of the best restaurants on the street is Rachels....
enjoy.

The west end of the bay is where the deeper water is. Thats where Aquapalooza is held.
Weather dependent, we are looking at starting the weekend late afternoon Friday, but plan on having to make a few runs back to home port sat and sunday to shuttle kids and friends on and off...unless we can hijack someone's dingy.....

My current plan is to arrive at Jones Beach Inlet Friday afternoon. Should I be worried about entering Jones Beach Inlet at low tide?

Vince, I found a quick note in my archives (this info is from 2010, that's why I was suggesting to give CG a call, just to be sure nothing has changed):
516-785-2995 - CG for JI (depths are 8'-9' at low tide)

I think this is very good point to keep in mind when you guys pick a spot for the raft Fri night or Sat morning.

Hey guys,

Although we have a group of experience boaters, but since this is the first kind of a long trip of the season (for most of us), it never hurts to have few reminders (especially if we're having a big raft with mixed boats gas/diesel and will be surrounded by CG and state police):
1. Make sure you have all CG equipment (PFDs, flares, etc.), stickers, registration and/or CG papers.
2. Make sure your CO detectors are in working order. Have extra if you can.
3. Have your travel lines and fenders.
4. For those who makes a long run, make sure to have operational VHF and preferred backup VHF (charge your handhelds). VHF will be your only communication device when you're couple miles off shore. Cell phones WILL NOT work.
5. Fill the water tank and pump-out the waste tank.
6. If you're grilling, bring fresh propane cans.
7. For those who's planning to leave later at night, make sure your nav lights work.
8. If you're using SCAN on you VHF, when transmitting on a channel don't forget to re-engage the SCAN mode, otherwise VHF will remain on the last used channel.
9. Since we have some new people, it's a good idea to have print out of the boat names from the 1st page. It'll make your task communicating with the raft a lot easier.

I guess everyone has their own detailed checklist, but those just came to mind as important reminders for the trip. If you got some good reminders, feel free to post.

Alex,

Good tips, I thought of one more. Since, as you say this is the beginning of the season, and we may not be fully prepared yet. Make sure the fridge (or cooler) is stocked with cold beer.

I was thinking about how much space we will need for this raft-up. Maybe it would be better if the first people there just anchor close to each other (rather than raft) until a few more boats arrive. That way it will automatically reserve more space.

Greg, that's very interesting point since we're dealing with limited space. Vince and his buddy will arrive Fri night and stay on the hook. If Joe, Ron and whoever else will be there first to reserve the spot, they could drop a hook close to Vince and have temp two small rafts.

A question for regular spectators for the show: if the show starts at 10am what time usually the majority of boats arrive to the bay? It sounded like we'll have good number of CSR boats arrive around 10am. Is this a good time or is it kind of too late?

Arriving at 10 is fine. The show goes on for a while, and the Blue Angels don't arrive till later. With that said, I still want to get there early (before 10) just to get settled and be able to enjoy more of the day.

Will do. re space...It is a great point. The bay will get real busy. Earlier the better but still very manageable @ 10.

I have gone every year, 10:00 AM arrival will be fine. If some of you guys are arriving Friday you may wish to score one of the pilings to tie to, their are four of them in a row, the most western one is in deep (10ft) water.

Im really going to try and get out there fri night. I was thinking if grabbing a piling too. Just for info my boat doesnt have a name on it yet. Its has a black hull. If your looking for us.

For everybody leaving Jersey on this beautiful sunny morning. I'm sitting on my dock in freeport and its pretty foggy out so take caution. Not sure how the weather is by you and I'm sure you know already but just if you don't I'm sharing the info. Hope to see you all tomorrow. Safe trip

Headin out tomorrow, but it is foggy here also. Expecting tomorrow morning will be better. Going to the boat later today to get it already. Hope to see you guy tomorrow. I won't be at Zachary till noon at the earliest as I will be heading to BWYC first.

We're headed to the boat in just a bit. Not sure if we're going to Zach's right away, but we'll be floating soon.

Greg- We may join tonight by the statue. Not sure yet.

Foggy down in Brick, NJ, but slowely clearing. Our plan is to leave around noon and take our time getting to Zachs bay. Probably troll for blues up around Sandy Hook as we head over to Jones Beach. I hope this weather clears up enough for the air show to take place. If the ceiling isn't high enough, they may not fly the jets. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the weather forecasts are as wrong as they usually are. :) A wet day on the boat is still better than a dry day at work!

I just brought about 1500lbs worth of crap to the boat this morning, I think a few more loads tonight after work and we'll be ready to go.

The forecast is looking good.

Ben, meeting behind the Statue tonight would be great.

Did you finally get your spare anchor with all chain or is this all your bear supply? .....ahhh, the happy time of loading the boat.
