Zach's bay Memorial day weekend

Thanks Steve. Do you have any recommendations on the Western side of South shore? I always wanted to visit few places there and this trip looks like the good window of opportunity. I also didn't want to be too far away from the JI.

Greg,
How many nights are you staying?

Yes...West of Zach's. But, if you know good places just West of FI that would be great as well. Is there anything worth of exploring?

Although I like your suggestion about Atlantique and Ocean Beach. I also herd good things about those places. On the way back I can jump in to the FI inlet and head home from there.

Saturday after the air show im heading out to fire island to.a.friends house if anybody is going that way I would like to follow sombody a little more knowable than myself.my last boat was a.jet boat doing 50 in a foot of water lol so this is my first boat with a draft so im still getting use to everything, and would also like to meet some people on the water for future events and fun.

And by the way west of zacks there really isnt anything other than a couple resturaunts (nautical mile and island.park is pretty much the extent of it and im 24 and love to party and the crowd is a little jersey shorish u might say for.me)

Why not follow him again? Doing 50 in 1' of water sounds like fun. Your props will get back the shine. It'll be a "show on water"....just kidding....

Oh, now I know why I feel at home in LI South Shore.

Lol jet drives no props. I was coming back from Fire island last year and not paying attention to were I was going looked down and was in at most a foot I didn't want to get stuck so I throttled up and kept going lol stupid choice but worked out for me that time. And I know a lot of the guys here are from jersey so I just wanted to make sure they know I was talking about the tv show jersey shore not people from the jersey shore lol

Greg,
How many nights are you staying?

Alex,
We'll be in the area for two nights. One night at Zachs, not sure about the second night yet. Maybe Zachs or maybe somewhere else.

Who is in the raft up so far?

Joe, can you update the first post with those attending?

Giving Joe a little hand. So far I see the following people who expressed interest in the raft:

Joe "Havana Shamrock"
Ron "rcmafgny"
Greg "Greg"
Alex "Alex F"
Brian "bmac"
Vince "Vince_nj1"
? "Xplicitlnck"
? "Dasch Boat"

P.S. I thought I've seen Todd's post somewhere that he wanted to join, but I can't find it now. I guess, he'll chime in a little later. I'll ask Robert(shadow999) if he wants to join.

Guys , The area Between the Wantagh and the meadow Brook PArkways is a good place to view. ( not great good ) It's not normally an anchorage but it becomes one during the air show. Zachs does get packed. So if u dont want to get packed like a SARDINE this might work out. Again the area I suggest is not a mooring area but it becomes one on these days . ( very crowded it gets ) There is a slight out of the way cove with a fishing peer closer to the wantagh that u can tuck into if its breezy.

PEople also anchor out all along the entrance to zachs. BAd idea as its a zoo.

Good luck and Enjoy

Rob

Thanks for the tip, Rob. Are you going to be in the area? Wanna to join us?

Hey all,

Just got wind of this thread and me and another party (2 boats in all) are going to be going over to LI during Memorial Day weekend. I had started a different thread in the General Tab about heading over to LI. I was planning on staying at Blue Water Yacht Club in Merrick. Where are you NJers staying and when are you heading over? I was planning on heading over Early Saturday Morning. Just trying to get ideas as I haven't ventured out to LI yet.

Thanks

Providing that all goes as planned and the weather cooperates we'll be staying on the hook at Zach's at least Sat/Sun. I don't know yet about Sun/Mon night and I'm still working on my plan for possible Mon/Tue.

I'll be heading to LI on Sat morning, not sure about departure time yet, but we still have plenty time to figure it out. I would offer to lead the way, but if you're coming out of Raritan Bay our paths don't really cross until we get closer to JI.

Why did you pick Merrick, is anything good there? I have it on my radar, but didn't have much info on anything that would make it a destination.

Got 2 boats going. Both with Little ones. Ages 3,4,6. Didn't want to stay on the hook as I don't have a Genny and my boat is considerably smaller then yours. Just unsure about doing that with kids that young. BWYC has a pool, shower facilities, and a restuarant. I pulled up the closest thing near JI and that is what I got unless I go west near Island Park. I am all ear on a better place if there is one. Was looking for a nice Marina, family and kid Friendly, and if it was touristy that would be nice. :)

Oh yeah, with bunch of little ones you need to be on land. It sounds like a nice marina. But, if you want to do more stops on your trip, then Fire Island has several cool places for kids.

Fire Island my be better but it looks to be about another 45 minute ride further east. Flynn's looks totally packed plus they want 3 day stay for the holiday weekend. I think Davis Park or Sailor Haven might work better. Any ideas? Sorry to high jack the thread here.

Alex,

Merrick is not really a destination. Freeport is really the only destination in that area. In regards to Fire Island, you show on your chart several marinas. All Fire Island destinations obviously offer the beach which is the primary reason people go to FI. The most western location is Kismet. Not many slips and if you were to get one, it would probably be on the outside which can get rocky. They will deduct a portion of your dock fee at the restaurant. I think if its $100, you can put $75 towards your bar tab. I previously mentioned Atlantique and Ocean Beach. Ocean Beach also has slips but can get pricey. Just east of OB, Seaview which you show is a nice protected marina but also pricey. Seaview Marina is very close to OB, an easy walk. From Atlantique to Seaview is 2 min. Boat ride just to give you an idea of the distance between them. Flynns is also very lose but highly unlikely slips will be available
