You are NOT going to believe this

Whoa, that is absolutely unbelievable.

Agree with some of the others, you should setup a sting and figure out who this guy is. Like you said yourself, he may just go and prey on someone else's boat, at your marina or otherwise. I personally would have too much anger and curiosity to just let him go and protect my things. He deserves to be caught! You have a great opportunity to do just that, if he hasn't already bumped into the chains.

Keep us updated on what happens...

Yeah some sort of camera, but secure it well. Most inexpensive units will leave with the theif and they'll find the recording unit.

better get the cops involved asap, they may even stake out the boat.

"I think the castle doctrine applies.. at least it does in my state. You can shoot this person if the enter your boat. Get a gun and happy hunting" = premeditated murder.

Took the words...

Best thing to do, although I would want to physically be involved myself as your husband wants to, is to let authorities handle it form here. Chain/lock your boat up and if you want set up some kind of watch: either in person or electronically. Call the police immediately when the suspect attempts entry.

Anything else, although greatly appreciated by me, is asking for a lawsuit or perhaps worse if the intruder has nothing to lose.

Let me first say please don't take this post the wrong way.

I think there's an easy solution to this problem...

TAKE YOUR DAMN KEYS WITH YOU!!!

I'm sorry to hear of the problems, but honestly, why would you leave your keys in the boat? You're asking for trouble. I sometimes hear of people that leave their home door unlocked because they live in a 'safe' neighborhood or their dog will protect them. Are you kidding me? Has anyone ever seen that show on Discovery Channel called 'It Takes a Thief'? It shows just how easy it is to break into a home and lose everything in under 5 minutes.

Out of sight, out of mind. Please, take your keys with you.

I had a friend of mine take his boat to Baltimore Inner Harbour a few years ago He docked the boat on teh seawall and went to dinner (he did not lock the cabin door) big mistake When he came back and got underway his wife went down in the cabin and found a homeless guy sleeping in there bed. He wanted to just put him over the side but his wife talked him in to turning around and taking the guy back.

I agree with most set up a sting to catch this guy I would want my pound of flesh

I'm absolutely with Dom on this one... this guy needs to be caught! I wouldn't change a thing but implement some type of surveillance system. This story can't end with the jerk just going to another boat that isn't locked-up and doing the same thing to someone else!

no I don't take this the wrong way. We just didn't think anyone could get into the cabin to turn them on. I know that is really stupid!! yes really stupid!! I won't even try to think of an excuse. But that said and done the keys are with us now.

I think a spy camera would be great, although violence does come to mind, there will be none of that. I think hubby and marina owner will come up with something. I know that something will be done to catch this creep because ours is hardly the nicest or most expensive boat in this marina that he could chose from.

As for feeling violated and creepy, heck yes!! I took all of our bedding home and washed it, I bleached down the head and washed all of our dishes on the boat again and threw away all open containers. It's just a creepy yucky feeling knowing someone you don't know was sleeping in your bed, eating your food, and peeing in your toilet.

Thanks everyone for the support and good advice, I just had to share this unbelievable story since I had told everyone our gas and anchor was stolen. LOL and we thought that was our biggest problem.

Whomever it is needs to be caught!! Two things could happen here if they're not - as someone said they'll just take someone elses boat out, or worse they could come back and do alot more damage to your boat to cover their tracks.

I am absolutely shocked!!!
What POS would do that.....He needs to be caught and publicly embarrased/tortured!

OMG!

I would want to sit nearby and catch him doing it and dial 911, and have the police nail him!

Hopefully they would be able to charge him with something that would keep him in jail for a bit!

I dont think I could watch without running up and brining him with a bat.
What a horrid thing to do messing with someones boat

What's the chances this punk knows either you or your boating schedule? Unfortunately this is usually the case with these types of incidents. Seems odd to return your boat to it's slip and take the chance of getting caught while docking.

I HATE being violated like this and fully understand the urge to inflict bodily harm. I find myself evaluating my own security practices, which have been limited as we too are located in a "secure" marina.

Hope you find em'!

He probably made copies of your keys so taking them with you may not stop him.

Agreed, when we leave her in the water for a few days or a week or whatever we have a secure marina to keep docked at.
Our 2nd day there the owner made an effort to come out and talk to us so he knows who owns the boat.

Id be pretty hot at the folks running the place if I was you as well. It's unacceptable for them allow such a thing to go on long term like that.

My bet is it's someone you know, and who knows some of your schedule. Most likely the teenage son of a close friend of yours.

If it was a real 'thug' or someone with a criminal background, the boat would be gone and on it's way down South, not back in the slip. Real criminals don't drink alcohol either. If they're robbing the joint, they get in, take everything, then leave.

Very disturbing to have that done to you.

I agree with most, help others out around you and setup a sting with the local law enforcement. I would get the police involved just to prevent me from beating the person senseless. That would probably be the only thing that would restrain me.

Again if you have the time, try to prevent it from happening to others.

I also agree that this is not someone looking for money, ect as the boat would be gone......... long gone.......
