How bout this idea? If you're that worried about it, replace the plug/cord for him, maybe he'll pay you back, maybe he won't but you won't have to FRET about it any longer...….

This might be a better picture for you to see what appears to me to be burnt cord. I'm not even sure a new power cord would solve this issue as I don't know what his inlet look like. It appears he's by-passed it.

Don't forget that the income feed has a breaker that will trip do to over current or short to ground so even though it looks like hell there is up stream protection.
