Who knows? Could be Cali, Oahu, Florida, Annapolis

So, I'm looking over at a dock neighbor's boat this am as I see some wasps making a nest. under the gunnel of his boat.

But, this is what caught my attention. Initially I thought it was simply exposed wires being plugged into the shore power cord. But since my camera has a good zoom I can see it better. It looks like, well, I'm not sure what it looks like. Kind of good connections? I don't know. This is in the cockpit of his boat and exposed to the elements.

As my vessel is next to his, I wasn't real thrilled... Though I chatted with the dockmaster and he shrugged it off.

Thoughts?

Edit: BTW - I know it looks like I went on his boat, but I simply snapped a pict from my boat and it has a very good zoom.

That would bother me. Is that a fuel fan right next to it? Why don’t you have a discussion with the owner

Looks to me like the end of the cable has slid down the cord, leaving the normally protected connections exposed.

Definitely sketchy.

Looks like yellow butt splices and attempted shrink tubing covering... probably safe, assuming proper strip and crimp techniques, but not for exposure to the weather.

The gas can must be for his Honda.

What the $%#*. I would definitely have to get into an electrical cord discussion with him just to see if that contraption would get brought up. Somehow I would have to find out how safe that is.

It amazes me that people spent tens of thousands (or more) for a boat and then scrimp on stuff like this. Wonder what the inside of his boat looks like - or other maintenance items.

Without getting into details...I'm sure he knows about it. I'm sure he did it...We've been cordial throughout the years but two weeks ago we had words when he started up and rev'ed up his gas motors at 3am. Then proceeded to yell at me for not being kinder the way I asked it to shut it down....Frankly, in that incident I was more concerned that he kept it running for 15-20 min before I came out. The issue was less the noise and more the potential CO. Even though I'm a diesel boat, I have a CO detector just because of guys like him.

Unfortunately, he's got an older SR.... A Sea Ray guy...SMH

To answer your questions, it's a 39 1980's gas dancer? port side...the cord looks burnt and yes that's a gas can near it....

I've always had good relations with the dockmaster. But when he brushed this off I thought I'd reach out to you guys and see if I'm being unreasonable or I should start looking for a different marina.

Gas can next to 30amp (assumed) electrical cord...I just showed this to my dockmaster and his words are not printable here, but rhymed with "What the Duck!!!" Mike

Why do I have to deal with this shit? I'm honestly at my whits end with incompetence these days.

I'm with you on the incompetence thing. I wouldn't bother with the dock master any more, now that you know him better. Call the local authorities. Better yet, call your ins. co. tell them the story and ask who in the co. it would best to send the picture to.

I'd call the owner of the marina vs. the dockmaster. Ask him who they carry their insurance with. When he asks you why - send him the pic of the cord and gas can.

@Captn TJ , good thought...but, the owners picked up the marina in an apt. complex deal...They are, as far as I know, a private equity co. that hired a management company to oversee the property that hired a marina management company.... The complex management is worse. The a/c has been broken in the workout room for over three weeks, and I could go on and on....

I think I see a burnt segment of the cord as well...I just don't understand the world today.

Perhaps a new marina in your future? BTW starting up his engines at 3:00a.m.??? WTF??

This ^^^^.
Tell the marina owner that if anything bad happens as a result of that boater, the marina will have significant legal exposure since you have informed him.

Instead of buying a new $20 plug, he cut and spliced the wires....

I just replaced one myself-price matched for $16 at WM.

I'm an electrician. The wiring shows no sign of a hot spot. The repair looks good. He could have done a better job with his heat shrink. It's cheap. Use a bunch. But, I don't know why he wouldn't just cut that out and apply the connector there. My biggest concern is the gas tank near an electrical cord.

Sure sounds like the issues are stacked against you regardless of the careless boat owner. If there were an option to change marinas, I would start looking. There will be bad people everywhere you go. But, you are already uncomfortable there.

WTF?, find a new marina, call the police, call your insurance company and send pics, call the marina's insurance company and send pics, call the marina owner and threaten him, talk to some CSR guys.

Hell ya, stand on the street corner and talk to everyone passing by about it, or........ How about you just talk to the guy that owns the fkin' cord?
