With the season fast approaching, what are your projects?

No, I am stretching it myself. I did the one on my 268 dancer. I like to do it myself because I can retain the stock look including the teak vents. The way its done: Determine the overall width and depth you want, cut it down the center, and lenghtwise just behind the vents. You will end up with four pieces. Using a router, mill out the plywood that is sandwiched between the glass as deep as you can. Fabricate the marine plywood filler in one piece. (will look like a big X ) Coat it in epoxy resin, then epoxy it to the four platform pieces that have been routed out (tounge and groove) Then its just many layers of biaxial glass, finish work and gelcoat. Last step is I mix in very fine beach sand on the last coat of rolled on gelcoat on the top surface for a very affective non skid. It runs about $400.00 bucks for materials. Then you will need to replace the stainless supports with (four )1" .063 walled 316 stainless tubing. Its almost done, but I will post some pics.

I'd definately like to see some pics. Sounds like a how to write up to me...

I've been working on quite a few:

- installed new carb on strbd engine - needs final tuning
- ordered new coil for strbd engine - getting a slight misfire at higher RPMs when hot - plugs/wires/cap/rotor are all new
- install new slave solenoids on both engines
- complete GPS and Fishfinder console
- replace impellers on both drives
- detail inside and out
- make platform for bilge to cover the pumps and give a flat work area
- recharge fart filter and replace vent lines from a wonderful overflow condition
- replace all dock lines
- working with an upholsterer on an estimate to replace entire cabin and cockpit seats and trim

My short list includes:

Install new C80 with radar and Sat weather
Install snaps on the new carpets I got at the end of last year
Add snaps to the winshield frame to eliminate the rubber seals
Look for a better LCD mount than the swing arm I put on last year
Fix fuel sender
Fix windlass dash controll (foot pedals work fine)
Touch up bottom paint
Paint outdrives
New anodes
Doing something to repair/replace stripes hacked up by PO
Seal canvas

Replace impellar - done
wet-sand under waterline - done
Wax, wax, wax - done
refurbish interior teak - done
reseat underwater screws w/4200 - done
replace rubrail - on order
repaint outdrive - in process
replace plug wires - done
AGM Battery for electronics - done
warm weather - waiting

She was put away with all of the maintenance performed per the manuals. This winter we added a nice stainless steel fitting to the flag pole that fits into the stainless steel socket on the rear rail. Been looking for a fitting to go over the end of the teak pole for several years to make it snug. Finally had one fabricated. Wax the hull and it's time to bring her home.

Luckily our winter wasn't that bad down here, somewhat condusive for workung on a boat....

1) Replace monkey fur in V-Berth with carpet and pleated/padded vinyl (Is $9.95 a yard a good price for surplus padded and pleated vinyl?)
2) Place crappy old travel trailer lights with recessed LED fixtures in galley and head
3) Get rid of old apartment sized 120V refirgerator freezer, with 120/12V smaller unit and add ice maker in the additional space.
4)replace all carpeting
5) replace sunbrella windshield wrap with this new stuff that you can see out but you can't see in.. (Don't know the name of it but my dock-mate got it and it's cool.)
6) Annual haul-out, zinc change, buff/polish/wax before it gets too friggin hot
7) replace shiity West Marine cockpit speakers with Polks, and add amp, pre-amp, and sub

Where in the hell all the money is going to come from I haven't a clue, but she floats and runs, so it'll be one step at a time

in my 2000 270 DA i installed a rail over my table that is accross from the stove.a shelf with no means of holding stuff on there. a brass rail from home depot, a handfull of lamp pulls for the brass spindles and a drill press, this worked out great !!

WOW! very very nice. Classical look...

Here are a few photos. We just finished the glass work on the stretched platform for the 1988 300 sundancer. Lots of finish work yet to be done, but you can see that it will still retain its stock vents and appearance. The new dimension are 115" long and 39" deep. The filler piece was made in one continuous piece. We have 3 days and 5 inches of rain coming tomorrow, so hopefully I can start grinding and finishing. I'll post pics as I go.

To much going on...to much to do...to many priorities this 2010.

I'm making progress on my 1978 240 Weekender resteration, but feel it's going to be mid summer before she hits the water.....ugh.

Just refinished all the teak, restriped entire boat, polished and waxed. Need to install flatscreen and paint the bottom, and service the engine/outdrive.

Awesome project! I've never given a shot at any kind of glass work, but that looks do-able.

I sure hope you post the details of this project. I did send you a PM about it. I will be doing the same to my boat in April. I would love to be able to sit in a chair on the swim platform while anchored out this summer. I will be anchored out for six weeks again this summer and this would be a huge plus for comfort.

Nice glass work.... Clean and solid,..... But,, what I want to know more about are the fishing gear on the fence!!!!

Aint no bobers like that used on our lakes!:wow:
WHat are you fishing for, Blue whale?

I will post pics throught project. Ken, You can actually fit 3 folding deck chairs and a cooler on the platform. kinda like a big back porch! Oh, the fishing gear on the fence...... They are all Island and beach finds, after a storm. I have about forty of them hanging on the fence.

Wow that does look nice. How much does it weigh now? Other than adding extra brackets, will you have to make any special provisions for the transom to support all that extra weight (3 people and a cooler)?

The wieght of the patform will be double, aprox 200 lbs. I am adding 4 more bolts through the transom on the platform, totaling 12, with 1/4" 316 stainless backing plates on both sides. All of the fasteners for the four 1" 316 stainless support tubes will be through bolted as well, even the ones below the water line. (These will also be grounded to my bonding system for galvanic protection)

1) Replace sterndrive waterpump and try to find the 1K rpm I was missing last year.
2) Buff and wax the rest of the deck. :(
3) Re-strip last years varnish off exterior wood trim and redo with polyurethane.
4) Mount 2 pairs of $20 Advanced Auto LED 'driving lights' on the transom as underwater lights. :)
5) MAY hack apart Bose noise cancelling headphones and slave them into an amp to surface-mount speakers so I hear LESS of the engine and MORE of my new stereo system.
6) If $20 LED lights work well, may paint inside lense of a bunch more and replace all my dome lights. :)
7) Install red LED area lighting from 18-whlr supply as interior night-lights. (just like CIC in the Navy!)
8) Stock reefer with copious quanities of adult beverages! :)
9) Get a screensaver pic of the woman bending over the transom rail with the 'twins' coming out for a 'looksee'. ;)
10) Enjoy good times with good friends cruising Wisconsins' coastline sipping tasty beverages!!! :)
