Finally got to take delivery of our 1995 330 DA yesterday,, in the rain. Went to pick it up and port engine wouldn't start,, dead battery. Luckily, and knowing the seller didn't replace the battery,. I brought jumper cables.
Anyway had to replace all the batteries today..Those two on the port side were killers. PO was using two golf cart batteries for start and house.
I now have two sore shoulders and back.
Oh to be young and strong again.

Just remember being old beats the other alternative. Also, if you were 30 again you would receive NO social security money either, that account will be gone by then. lol

Congrats on your new boat.

Hey hey hey go easy on that social security! I can't connect it for another what 37 years! I haven't even hit 30 yet and have the knees of a 60 year old and fingers don't listen to my demands anymore lol I'm in trouble.

Same as me  we've got a ways to go and that money should be well gone by the time we're eligible

Rick, I can relate to the aches and pains. You know why I can relate? 'Cause I'm old too.

GW and I still do most of the maintenance and all of the upkeep on Beachcomber. I do hire a marine tech to do the heavy lifting stuff though. My back tells me when I've overdone it, but only AFTER I've overdone it.

Rick, are we going to see your new 330 up here for the IBNW cruise?

LOL, Golf Cart Batteries can be difficult to maneuver in small spaces without killing yourself. Good job that you could even get it done! Sometimes I wish I had the back of my 30 year old self, or was in the general physical condition of my 30 year old self. I am afraid my body has been through some abuse, and I have earned every ache and pain. I seldom wish I was actually 30 again. If I knew then what I know now...well...lets just say I would have gotten in a lot more trouble. It is still a ***** to lose the feeling in my feet while crammed into the bilge for any length of time, or have trouble standing back upright. At 56, whatever I am able to, finally, collect from Social Security will in no way support our current life style. I imagine I will just suck it up and stay employed until I can not do a days work, or tolerate the recreational activities I currently enjoy. I have morphed my 'day job' from Line Mechanic, to Fiber Optic Cable Sales (Driving a desk), and am applying for my 6-Pack Captains License. My wife has a degree in hotel management (Hospitality), so eventually we may luck into a waterside resort job, or managing someone else's Yacht, to supplement our retirement income, and keep fuel in our 380DA

So enough of this "old" talk. I just turned 65 last month and next year I plan to start spending all of the SSA money you youngsters are contributing for me. But seriously, I was talking to a 64 year-old friend and cancer survivor on the phone the other day and we were talking about retirement plans, medication and aches and pains. I told him when we first met we talked about boats, babes, cars and where we were going to get drunk this weekend.

BTW I just had to replace 2 8D batteries in my big boat. 156 pounds lowered 5' down into the engine room and the worst part was getting the old ones out. Now where did I put the Motrin?

But seriously said:
AMEN! I remember, when I was 30, that REALLY BUGGED me about hanging out with my older friends. Now I am as guilty as the next 'old' guy ;0) At least I can still spice up, the 'Vicodin/Blood Pressure' talk with the occasional back-pack or boating adventure. My KLR650 gets the dust shaken off it on occasion, and it still runs like a top. We actually took our boat out to the giants game and overnighted in the South Beach Marina last weekend(went to the Mother's Day Brunch at the YC). A pretty girl can still turn my head, and I am not past a few extra drinks with my friends. So, as I can fully appreciate "wishing I was 30 again", I can also appreciate where I am lucky now. I think I would be better off worrying about boats, babes, and cars, or where we are getting drunk this weekend. Hey, it is FRIDAY!

Youth is wasted on the young.
Two shoulder surgeries and a @&$ lower back.
But, we are not in the horizontal position, and summer is approaching. It's all good.

That's it! Still looking at the right side of the daisy's. Still playing with cars and boats.
We might have left off cruising the bizone for Guineveres, and become slightly more civilized, but we are not fossils yet ;0)

Re-did my dock a few months ago and ended up with pain, tingling and numbing down my left arm. Had an MRI on Monday and yep, 2 herniated discs. Waiting for the insurance company to Ok some steroid shots in the neck. I'd take 30 again any day even without the years of knowledge.
