I read in that you must heavy gauge wire on windlass. Can any one tell me must you use 6 gauge if that is the recommended for my length all thru the wiring. So from the toggle switch must also be 6 awg wire. and switch only has 3 posts on it and I will have 4 wires which 2 wires get joined together

Yes, unless your are using the contactor solenoid. Then the wires from the contactor to the switches can be a lot smaller.

The wiring from the foot switches or the helm toggle can be a lower gauge. Here is a write up I did when installing one in my 260DA a couple years ago:
