I've had the same thoughts about the anchor hanging off the bow of my boat. I took it to a plating shop but they told me "fuggetaboutit". Said that the chrome plating would get messed up after a few anchorings and would then look bad. The SS anchors are very expensive. The 25# SS replacement from Sea Ray costs over $400, I think. So now I'm thinking about special zinc-based spray paint that's designed for renewing galvanized surfaces.
You can take muratic acid and clean the stains off of the galvanized finish and brighten it up quite a bit but I'm expecting that if I do that too much, I'll clean clear through the zinc. So, now I'm looking to order a can of zinc-based spray paint as they sure don't have it at True Value.
