Why did my 300 lose so much value?

I need to talk to the admiral (wife) about how important a port lounge is to her. In our present boat that is her preferred seating location.

The 240DA we have is nice, we simply would like more room, A/C and I’d love a windlass.

Her #1, MUST HAVE or will not even consider the boat is the swim platform must completely cover the outdrives with the drives all the way up + hit the trailer button. We have small kids, guests have small kids. We often anchor in shallow sand bottomed areas. We get in as far as we can under power, kill the engine, hit the trailer button then walk the boat in as far as we can and hand drop anchor. The kids love to climb up the ladder and jump back in.

With our present boat one of us stands at the stern at all times making sure the kids do not accidentally fall onto the outdirve.

Do you know if the swim platform covers the outdirve when all the way up? This is the reason we were looking at the 280DA with the 4.3/Alpha’s. If you go with the 5.0L BIII’s the outdrive on the 280DA the drive is much longer and sticks out past the swim platform when you trim up all the way.

The swim platform is very deep, 3 feet. So the drives are not near the edge of the swim platform at all. This is a bolt on swim platform as opposed the the molded in type where you can actually see the drives tilted up when you stand on the swim platform. You can email me and I'll send you a list of everything in the boat.

It doesn't have the port side lounge but it has a double helm seat and there is also a filler cushion for the facing seats in the back to make one giant sun lounger.

It has Heat and AC and a generator so you can use the AC away from the dock.

There is no way I would be able to sell this on my own. I sold my last boat and it took me a year.

Mike...so what if it does take a year to sell your boat...you should be able to get much more than 73K for your boat. I know last March the local MM offered a guy 88K, ACV-actual cash value, for his 2002 300DA. As I understand the ACV is the price one would get on trade for new boat that was purchased.

Don't feel to bad! The wife and I were out looking the other day at a used 320. MM offered me $67K for our 260 with less than 50 hours on it!!! And they didn't drop any off the price of the 320!! Needless to say they still have the 320!

Ive been thinking my next boat will be a 2002 280DA but I know this guy who is looking to upsize and has a 300DA now. I heard he was offered $73K if he uses his current boat on trade and he may be able to get his next boat for even less if he does not have a trade. I wonder how much it would cost to get it transported to Wisconsin?

:smt017 You’re joking??

I hope you understand my ? remark here.
You wrote about "this guy" if you didn't read this post at all.
And I thought that this was a confuse of presentation.

You are correct.

If we were all sitting around a table on a boat, viewing the sunset and having some cocktails everyone would have known what I meant but on a forum you loose that consistency as people hop from one message string to the next.

I will try to be more specific with my posts in the future.

Oh no problem, I understand.
But thought it was a funny coincident.

The salesman I spoke with from the Sea Ray dealer at the New Orleans boat show said that Sea Ray has already stopped production of the 300da.

There are hardly any new 300's available.

There are two new 2006 300DA at the dealer where mine came from.

Listed on their web site for $134,000 with 350 Mags / B3's

This does make some sense from a purely business point of view. If you are trying to push an all new model (310) and test the waters of public acceptance, then it follows to pull back and limit the availability of the closest model line competitor.

Correct me if wrong, but I think they did the same thing with the 215EC in about 2002. Searay introduced the 225, which cost substantially more for the additional foot and did sell, but not as well as the 215. One salesman told me he sold more 215’s than any other model and could not understand why they would take away such a popular model. The end of that story is they now make both the 215 and the 225 and call them “Weekendersâ€.

In my area the online inventory lists 5 – 300’s and 4 – 310’s, all 2007 models. Perhaps we will know in about two years or so, if one model will be dropped or if both will continue in production.

I don't think you'll have the same scenario as the 280/290 because the 290 is already gaining acceptance, however slowly. The shock factor is no longer an issue, and it's obvious that SeaRay intends to continue along this design path. Therefore I see a quiet phase out of the 300, which thanks to the design team is already looking a bit dated. Too bad, I happen to think it's a lot of boat for the money. It got a bad rap largely in part due the earlier Bravo3 corrosion issues.

Apparently, these nasty rumors regarding the 300’s demise may be true.

At the Baltimore boat show, they had a 310 front and center as the premier display boat and you guessed it – no 300.

The dealer said they are still making the 300 this year and could not confirm or deny that it will be phased out. He indicated they did not bring one to the show because “we only have so much floor space and can not bring every modelâ€.

Does this mean that those of us with one may soon be able lay claim to owning a “Classic Searay

I am sure the 280 and the 320 are going to phased out soon - then the 340 will be next. At least Sea Rays have classic lines.

There is no doubt that the 300 will be phased out. Also Skolbe is right about the 280, 320 and 340 being next. Sea Ray changes it's models every couple of years or so. Model's that were once "even #'s" are now "odd #'s" and it's only a matter of time. They will not have a 280DA, 290DA, 290AJ, 300DA, 310DA, 320DA, 340DA. Too many models for that size market. That's just the way it is. I'm happy I got mine at the right price when I did. :smt038

THe Sea Ray dealer locally here has 9 new '06 and '07 300DA's available and was saying that there are a lot of them available from Sea Ray directly. The incentives are so good that im now considering a new 300DA versus a used 280DA. Damn this "itis" disease!! lol

Mike

MAKC: What kind of incentives are you finding on the 300's?
This model rarely had any published incentives available.
