Why are slip's so expensive?

Why did anyone even respond to this anyway? What is a slip's anyway? I think the apostrophe may be in the wrong place to even respond to this???? Since when is a slip possessive?

Last I knew it was a slip?

I hate the misplaced apostrophe...it is the most misused punctuation in the English language!

Slips are located on prime waterfront real estate. Many times the highest and best use may have changed since the marina was first operated. The owners may be able to sell-out for condos or retail and bring in millions and not have to work every day. This is why so many trailer boaters are losing launches they have used for years. The bottom line is someone is willing to pay big bucks to marina property owners and we as boaters must compete with them to keep our access to slips and ramps.

Other big factors are costs that are likely out of the owners control. The liability insurance has to cost a ransom to handle our boats, dispense fuel at the water, and have people of all ages running on your docks. Property tax rates for a private marina are based on commercial property unlike your home, which is based on residential rates. Don't forget all the energy and labor costs involved in operating a business.

Thanks for the post. Do agree with what you've said. I guess I'm curious to peak into the books of a marina to see how that all gets broken down and what goes into the owners bank account at the end of the day.
