Who's NOT boating this season due to COVID?

Cheers, first night on the boat this season...

Potential snow totals for the next few weeks

I am just going to take it easy.... we need good weather... the next two week forecast is not boating weather...
I need a bit of time ..maybe a few weeks to get our business under control... that’s up to the government right now... I think it’s a wait and see still

Nobody will be boating on their Sea Rays in Michigan until May 1st at the earliest because our amazing governor (and wannabe VP) has indicated that while canoes, kayaks and sailboats are permitted, the use of motorboats, jet skis and other similar watercraft is NOT permitted.

We also learned that Charlevoix has cancelled this year’s Venetian Festival, which wouldn’t have even occurred until July 18-25!

Just checked our forecast....possible 3" tomorrow...and blizzard Monday morning. Ha....I knew it, I was planning to put my plow away this afternoon.

While I'm certainly no fan of our governor, I see nothing in the latest executive order that would exclude anyone from boating, jet skiing, etc. https://www.michigan.gov/documents/...e_Stay_Safe_reissue_final_signed_686575_7.pdf
It's in the FAQ section of the DNR COVID19 response that was updated April 10th a day after the executive order to "explain and interpret" the order. If you're looking for a loophole, maybe that's an avenue you can pursue as it is not really stated specifically in the order that motorboating is prohibited.

Furthermore, I bought a teak flag staff for the boat that is being delivered today, and had intended to make it a little garage project by sanding and varnishing it. But again, thanks to our governor, I can’t buy a can of varnish as home stores and hardware stores have to close off sections of their stores including the paint aisle. Mind you that I can go into the store, but cannot have access to paint supplies. I’m speechless on how this makes any sense....

I think it was Blueone who mentioned they have high water and that prevents them from boating. Can you explain that please?

Also, are you guys really still getting snow? We're about 1 degree further north from where Charlevoix and the northern end of Green Bay are and it was over 80* here yesterday.

Don’t you have curb side pickup?
Here, we can order on line to Home Depot, as well as others, from their web site and they will deliver it to your vehicle with no personal contact.
Have used it at Staples with success and felt very safe.

Blue can answer himself but essentially the water peaks late June ish and it’s already over some docks in early April. Not good! He may not have a place to put his boat if I’m understanding correctly.

I don’t think I said that exactly.... most marinas around Erie and St Clair are fixed docks... last year the water was higher then some docks... some marinas closed sections, some built platforms on the docks to raise them up.
This year they say the water will be higher by about 8” then last year... but that’s yet to be seen.
My marina is floating docks our pilings are not long enough to take 8“ plus a north east wind. They are deciding if the are going to extend the pilings

Possibly, and I suppose I could look into that. However, at this point, I’m trying do all I can to support our local businesses, hardware store included, and our governor won’t let me do that because the paint aisle is non-essential.

Personally, with how hard this is hitting our local businesses, I will just wait until the order is lifted to tackle this small project so I can can spend a little money with the local folks trying to survive this.

Jeff, and I'm sure the local businesses will greatly appreciate you continuing to be their customer.

I went to Lowe's yesterday to pick up a few small items for my underground sprinkler system. There was a line of about 15 people waiting to get down that aisle. Screw that. I know how long it takes to determine what items you want and where they are.

I went back this morning about 6:30 and was the only person in the aisle. Very few people in the store. It may not have been as busy as Lowe's would like it but that's how I like it.

Our local aco or ace hardware has curbside pickup.I know its not the same as spending time browsing the isles but you will probably save money by not buying things on impulse.
