Who's NOT boating this season due to COVID?

Some promising movement around here- driveway beers with appropriate distancing ok'd in Ottawa (will be taking advantage of that today!) and seasonal campgrounds taken off the non-essential list in Ontario. Maybe marinas will be close behind.

Still a long way to go to get past this though. Numbers look to be trending down but would easily return to exponential growth again if normal behaviour were returned.

Bit of a catch-22. Clamp down and lower the numbers but very little community immunity is developed (assuming immunity is in fact obtained) so it takes a very long time. Untenably long. Loosen the reigns completely and the numbers could grow too quickly such that hospitals and morgues are overwhelmed. Tough part is the ground in between is very sensitive from a numbers perspective (and other perspectives too)...

We went out earlier this week. Headed out again today. Got the boy driving! :)

NYS modified the Essential Services list again today this time to included marinas.

https://esd.ny.gov/guidance-executive-order-2026 (Section 13)

"Marinas, boatyards, and recreational marine manufacturers, for ongoing marina operations and boat repair/maintenance, where such facilities adhere to strict social distancing and sanitization protocols. Use of such sites for the purposes of personal use or operation of boats or other watercraft is permissible, provided that no establishment offer chartered watercraft services or rentals. Restaurant activity at such sites are limited to take-out or delivery only."

Lets see if this sticks this time.

Yea all my friends were texting last night. Sounds great, but this season is really gonna stink. I'm almost chalking it up as done. My wife is already saying she doesn't know how people are going to control themselves when they start drinking. Doesn't even want to go down there already. With the rules in the pic, it's going to be pretty boring. How do trips work when you go with a group? We had a plan to go to Block. What happens, We all drive there together, Dock and stay on our boats! Not fun. Guess we won't be doing the second picture this. year..lol. On a good note, I do own a mooring in the cove so at least I'll have somewhere to hang out.

We only raft up later in the season because a lot of our friends tend to walleye fish untill mid to late summer anyway and when out on the boat we dont want to be with anyone anyway.I am guessing the grand kids wont be coming up this year either.Probably wont hang at the pool or cook out on the grill at the patio when others are around or sit next to our friends next to the river and watch boats go by either.

That’s great news!
Hoping that they open Tobay. I may need a place to move my boat for about two weeks when this wraps up.
My bulkhead was supposed to be replaced in March, but the dock builder isn’t allowed to start any new jobs.
Once he can work on my bulkhead I’ll have to move the boat and Tobay would be a great place to keep it.
In the meantime, I’m glad I got the boat ready early and have it in the water. Being docked on my own private property, at least I’ve been able to hang out and putter around with things on it.

Well in Michigan we can’t even walk across the street or it’s a $1000 fine

And I thought California is bad! I've heard of isolated cases of fines being levied against people violating the stay at home order but usually they are kids in groups and my guess is they are being little smart asses about it and giving the cops a hard time so they get what's coming to them. For the most part law enforcement's mandate was to educate not enforce the measures. As this drags on they are finding the education angle is not working out.

Took a ride up to the marina today to just check on the boat I haven't seen in 2 months. It's part of the state park system so it's closed and barricaded. But here's the thing, it's inside a county forest preserve which is open. So I took the forest preserve path a half mile which ends at the storage buildings. Again, barricaded, so I hopped over and started towards my boat, when the Gestapo started yelling at me. Like WTF, it's my property and the nearest person was probably 2 miles away. Once again denied.

Went a few miles up the road to the next marina (in the next state) and damn, there were several boats already in, people on land, getting them ready for this weeks launch, and two dudes in smaller trailer boats in the water going for a run. People where out and about, with proper social distancing.

My state, IL sucks.

Lake Powell in Arizona / Utah just reopen but only to local boaters who’s boat are with in a 20 mile area due to mussels here yeah for their wisdom

We can motorboat in michigan ! why hasnt the marina called to schedule launch yet ,its been 45 minutes since the wichmere broadcast.

What list,i have to work on cars for people off the street my boat has been quarantined for months. She said some bussinesses could open with social distancing practices in place i would think marinas would be included if auto repair shops are.She did keep our sales staff at home though. But our marina dosnt need to sell boats to service them or open a door to let us work on them so they can put us in the water.

The dinghy will be wet slipped before the boat at this rate.
