Who are you insured with and what's your rate?

Chubb for me. I wanted to reduce the winter lay-up time for Chesapeake Bay by 30 days and only cost me an extra $40/year on my policy (about $1100/year).

NBOA, Great Lakes and Tributaries agreed value policy..... alot less than most posting here. Check with NBOA for sure.

Geico / Boat US who I was with for years wanted over 2k for my 400 Sundancer.

If you are not discussing the same location, numbers really are not useful.

For example, even with a localized focus such as Florida, where in FL will impact your rates.
Agreed, I am not looking to compare numbers, more who do you use and are you happy with the rate.

Just a comment.... I was with BoatUS for 20+ years but since Geico picked them up all they have done is reduce coverage and raise prices. I realize BoatUS was on the edge of insolvency after a string of hurricanes years ago depleted their money stockpile......but Geico was a terrible answer for boaters.

I like many of you went out and started getting quotes. In my case I ended up with Progressive. They have their own set of issues but I have never made an insurance claim on my boats so I'm looking more at the annual price for the coverage. For the exact same coverage that Geico quoted me for 2022......Progressive was $500 less.

I have been with GEICO, I think going on 3-4 years. Very happy. No claims, although I did get reimbursement for Hurricane haul-out. Very happy with how that was handled. Rates/coverage have been stable so far.

Prior to this was working through a broker, that experience was a train wreck. Learned a lot about how marine insurance brokers work. A lot of times that is a standard response on here is to find a broker. Just make sure you do some research and your eyes are open.

So this thread comes along right when I’m getting a renewal for my center console in Florida. I’ve noticed the rate creeping up over the years. Anyway, being a CSR contributor, I don’t see the ads, but somewhere recently in another thread someone pointed out that if you click the white arrow on the top right, ads will appear from the side. I click the arrow, and an ad slides over for NBOA insurance.

So I call NBOA insurance to seek a quote for comparison. NBOA offers better coverage, lower deductible, 12 month plan (my current required a lay-up period of dry storage during hurricane season) and even includes $750 coverage for pets. The shocker was this NBOA insurance is $1,100 CHEAPER than what I was paying with my existing policy!

So with that said, I’d like to thank both CSR and NBOA as an advertiser here. I would’ve never thought to get a comparison quote with them if I hadn’t seen their ad here on CSR!

i have been with nboa for 20 years with various boats....no one can beat their coverage and cost...and i check when changing each boat

Called, thank you.
They came back about 20% less than geico, but with a lay up period. Never heard of that before, but understand it now. They also have a navigation line that is difficult to understand but basically I couldn't cross over it.

Thanks for the referral.

My Sea Ray is coming up for renewal soon. I’ll definitely be getting a quote in that as well. What is interesting though is the Sea Ray has 2x the hull value but because it is in Michigan and not Florida, the premium is half the cost.

The only thing with nboa is how they value the boat. I pushed back a bit on my current boat and got it to a fair value but just shy of its true pre Covid value. They blamed it on age

I just got a letter in the mail yesterday from NBOA that on 5/1/22 my policy expires and they will not renew it.
I don't understand this as the policy was paid in full when purchased and have no claims, I will call them today to find out why they are not renewing my policy.

NBOA is a broker. They have, on your behalf, secured you a policy with a company. As you say, this policy expires on 5/1/22. The "company" has made a decision to not renew. As you mentioned, you have had zero claims, so my guess is that the company is getting out of this type of business. The non-renewal does not reflect badly upon you going forward. NBOA will find you a similar policy with another company. I have had this happen about 3 times in 5 years of renewals. Just roll with it, IMO.

Exactly true....

Yep.... Charter Lakes has done the same a few times with me. Every year I get a new quote from NBOA, but lately they've still been a few hundred higher...

I've had six boats insured with NBOA since 06', with no claims. Don't know if my 25GT USCG master captains license helped, but I can't complain about my rate. I'm sure the 6-month lay up time is a big factor.

Replacement value: $325k
Deductible: $6,500 (2%)
Limits: $500k / $500k
Medical: $30k per person
Personal property: $25k / $250 deduct
Pollution liability: $939,800
Towing: $10k per tow

Premium: $1,877.00

I just got my renewal, it is up 25% from last year, and up 50% in the last 3. I have Chubb, $160K hull value, 2% deductible, 10% storm deductible, $500 K liability. I haven't had a claim in 28 years. Cost this year is $5,100. Living in south FL has it's price, literally.

Great comments as I am now shopping around....
