If it isn't over 50 feet, then I doubt you take the honors. (That leaves me out for sure :smt021 ).

Give us some details about the boat as well.

When I was on my cruise a few weeks ago I ASKED the captain if I could drive....does that count...

Ah Dave there is a difference between Captained a vessel and piloted a vessel. I have piloted a 553 footer before. The Captain did not like it much when I cranked it up and started doing figure eights. :smt043
That was a lonely 2 months in the brig. :smt021

I had a funny incident with a 65 Hatteras. In 2002 I was moving a couple of my brokerage boats out of the Miami Show, I was on a 63 Navigator, and had my buddy run a 65 Hatteras for me. The owner of the Hatteras had stayed on the boat the whole show and apparently ran the generator non-stop. If you have ever been to a major boat show move-out you know it is a cluster. So we are scrambling to get our act together, and both of us finally pull out of the show (they pretty much untie the boats whether you are on them or not, if you are not they will get towed out). About 2oo yards away from the show the Hatteras starts spitting and sputtering and finally shuts down. Guess what....out of fuel :smt100  The current is quickly washing us back down towards the show and all the steel I-beams they call pilings so it was not looking pretty. Plus all the other boats that had already cast off behind us had to make their way past us. So with my friend petrified at the helm of this Hatteras I quickly put a plan into action. First went the security call, then I flew down from teh bridge to put the Poly-Balls out on the port side of my boat, then got some lines in place (so far about 90 seconds has passed, and there are only about 90 more until the first impact!), then I manuever my boat next to the hatteras's sb side, run from the lower helm to the bow to throw my friend the first line, then the second from my port forward spring cleat for him to attach to his sb aft spring cleat. Had no time to attach any other lines. Had to get back to the lower station and make a manuever or two to dodge the first I-Beams as I straightened up the boats to head back up the canal. Finally started chugging back up the canal to build up a little more time, at which point we tied up the boats more appropriately, then I proceeded to back them down towards the show again, between a few i-beams in the current, and landed the hatteras into a spot it could stay at until the fuel truck came. Nothing in this story is embelished and it was as exciting as it sounded. Boat show crew and captains were all over the dock hooting at hollering at the accomplishment. It was certainly one of my highlights at the helm. So I put my frined on an old 56 Hatteras MY that had to go too (bumped the other captain) and we made our way up to Ft Liquordale. I'm a junkie for exciting moments at the helm so that was a good day
