When to change oil on a new 185 sport

Thanks it says to check at 20 and first oil change at 100 hours. So my question is should you actually wait that long or change it before 100 hours.

If you've pulled water toys, or a skier, I would change it and the filter with genuine Mercruiser synthetic blend oil and Merc filter. Even if you havn't been pulling anything, do it.

In the grand scheme of boating, an oil change is cheap.

You are supposed to do it at 20 hrs. There is a 20 hrs break in service that is recommended that includes oil and filter change.

Thanks I am probably going to change it at 50 hours then

Sooner the better, especially in your climate. BTW, do check your manual for other recommended service related intervals. Some of Mercruiser's intervals may be different now than they have in the past for the same engine/drive combination.

First 20 then every 100 or each time you winterize it, if you should ever move to a more northerly climate. Go get your oil changed.:smt021

Thanks I called the dealer and they said that it doesn't need to be changed in till 100 hours but just to be safe I am going to do it at 50 hours since the boat already has 40.

And yes I do have the 4.3!

You need a new dealer, the oil is suppose to be changed at 20hr and then every 100hr or yearly unless you do alot of towing then I would do it every 50 it's cheaper then fixing your engine.
