What's You're Winter / Spring Upgrades?

Replace a hot water heater.
replace power supply on my Norcold refrigerator.
replace the rotten plywood in a section of the cockpit seat.
Oh yeah, if the funds are available, replace entire canvas and add camper back.

so here is the update on my list:
Hot water heater has been replaced.
Could not locate a power supply, so fridge is still only operating on 110v, but working ok.
Two cockpit seat bases have been repaired.

Now the new list:
Adding an additional 110v outlet in the cockpit.
Adding a USB charging port to the dash.
Removing and replacing the oil lines to the remote filter on both engines (one is leaking).
Replacing rotten shelf in cockpit

and for the main event;
replacing all upholstery in the cockpit
replacing all front canvas and adding a camper canvas with screens and strata glass enclosure
new cockpit carpet

Do you need a power cord, a power board, or both? Which Norcold model is it?

On my norcold, the fridge needed pulled completely out of the boat to access the power converter on the rear of the fridge. There was a non-documented fuse on that converter that was blown. Replaced the fuse, 12v DC operation worked again.

did you take the fridge completely out and look?

Yes, I have had it out several times. No fuse.

Trflgrl,
I believe the power board is shot (on the 12v side). I can't remember the model number, but it is the older version of the DE61 (the full size 7.0 cu ft unit).

I've had good luck with Norcold itself--you can cross reference with serial number if you can't ID model. Probably a PITA to pull out the fridge again if the ID plate is on the back of the unit, but hopefully worth the effort since the part should be less than $200. If nothing on the site pops out at you, I'd bet their customer service can tell whether there's an exact match or one of the "new style board fits most models" might work instead.

So, the upholstery work is done and the seats are waiting to be put in the boat!! They want to do the new canvas first so that the seats don't get ruined.

1) New holding tank - long story.
2) ripped out Vacu-flush systems for both heads.
3) Replaced both heads with new Thedford macerating heads and all of the plumbing and electric that goes with it. No pumps in the engine room anymore and no more freaking out about people pooping on the boat.
4) Planning a poop party so eat some rocks and come on over!
5) Replaced starboard shifter and had to flush all fluid for throttle/shifter system because someone put the wrong fluid in the system before I bought the boat. It was leaking from the shifter, which was how I found out.
6) replaced port block heater.
7) Usual buff/wax from waterline to the top of the hard top.
8) Replaced the rope lights used for the recessed lighting under the couches in the salon with LED rope lights. Reached all the way under the galley counters and came out great! $40/box at Costco. Used 2 boxes. Peel, stick, plug and go! Very easy.
9)replaced all of the check-valves in the bilge pumps (4) because they were starting to leak.
10) Asked my wife to sell her body to pay for the new heads. She was not amused. Asked her if I could sell mine. She was less amused but at least smiled.

I'm sure I'm missing something but I splash on 4/15 and can't wait to get the season started! Anyone visiting Milwaukee this summer, please layover on the Yacht Club dock any time and reach out! We'll show you how it's done at MYC!

Just picked up a replacement fridge for the galley, and a cockpit fridge to replace the icemaker with.
New seawater pumps for the mains and all water intake hoses for mains, gen, air.
Going to plumb galley sink overboard. Finish the interior lighting conversion to LED that I started last year.
A dedicated 110 circuit for the E/R and Pan heaters for the mains because I yanked the air heaters after a malfunction with one of them caused some tense moments last season.

Ok Mark, we will need detailed pictures in the 40 Sedan Bridge Forum of the pan heater install and the galley drain install.

I replaced my factory Sherwood pumps with the SMX from Seaboard Marine. Are you sticking with the Sherwood? I disconnected my grid heaters (don't really need them down here) but didn't remove them and their wiring. Is that hard to do?

Bill, I was undecided on the pumps, but the short story is that I went with the SMX. I will grease up one of the Sherwoods and carry it as a spare. This was the year to change the impellers and as long as I was going back there, might as well change the 13 year old pumps.
I pulled the starboard side air harness last season when it melted down. Not difficult to do, turn off your battery power and start at the top and work your way down. I left the main power cable that supplies it from the starter motor on because for me to get to the starter to remove it, I would have to remove the mixer elbow or the heat exchanger and that can be for another time. I just sealed the end of the cable with 2 layers of adhesive shrink tube and tied it securely in a benign place for now (power at that cable at all times). I removed the port side a few weeks ago when I replaced the seawater pump, I had the aftercooler off to crawl back in there so it wasn’t too bad. The only hiccup there was that the mounting bracket that all of the solenoids and control module mounts to couldn’t be removed without either cutting one of the bolts off or moving the motor enough to get the clearance needed to the stringer that is a ½” from the bracket L. I removed all the components from the bracket and left the bracket there, no big deal. Save the solenoids for spares as they are a match to the starter solenoids. I replaced the seawater hose at the same time as I noticed that a little cracking was starting to set in right where it passes under the turbo (from the heat). It only makes sense then to do all the rest of the below water line hoses, so now that’s done. The weather turned cold here so when it warms up I’ll do the fridges. I am going to replace the ice maker unit in the uline and then that will be for sale if you know anyone, or I'll sell it as is, it works but drips a little water in the bucket and the Teflon coating on the mold is shot from the PO winterizing it with pink.

New canvas once she is on the water.
Trying out a new dash upgrade to see if I like it. (been working on if for a year)
Hope to have a new higher backrest for the front bench seat. (will resemble a full length head rest) If I can come up with a design that is solid and looks good.

Most of my list was taken care of over the winter.....

New controllers for galley fridge and freezer
Replace port fuel sending unit
Prop Scan (no tuning needed)
Buff and wax to the deck and hull

Will be replacing the windshield seals in the next couple of weeks, replacing windshield wipers, and replacing wiper washer hoses. In the process of redecorating - new pillows and bedding - since we just purchased in August.

Spring upgrade will be looking to improve my tv installation in the forward stateroom. The bracket they have just seems too weak. May look at making a custom board that will flip up for access to the connections. Will continue the search for the perfect dinghy davit system, too.

4 weeks to launch!

Jeez, let's see...

Starting April 1st, in no particular order:
Bottom paint
Wash & wax
Install new Lowrance chartplotter & transducer
Install new flooring on salon floor
Install Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detector
Install flat screen television
Refinish teak
Change oil in the engines

I'm sure that we'll think of more to add to the list later!

Cheers

Bottom painting done!

Salon floor replaced!

We should hopefully finish the rest this weekend!

Were you able to find a cockpit fridge that is fridge only? I've been trying to find either a fridge only or freezer only(preferred) to replace the existing old ice maker. What brand did you go with?

Not a fridge only, it has the usual tiny freezer compartment up top. Norcold NR740. Freezer only is available somewhere, saw a late '90's 330 DA with one last year.
