What is the longest distance you have traveled or trip you have taken in your own boat. All sizes and makes welcome to respond. Miles traveled, destinations reached and problems that may have occurred would also be of interest. Thanks!

1400 miles. Ft lauderdale to CT. multiple stops. Shallow water and weather were the biggest problems.

Catawba Island Ohio to Port Huron Meatchicken and back. 400 miles stopped in Detroit and Algonac and Middle Bass Island... smooth sailing. Neat being able to say I traveled to another great Lake...

I'm a newb compared to Turtle... wow I hope to travel like that some day...

The only trip we've taken was when we brought it up the Columbia River from Portland, OR to home, about 220 miles.

From my marina inn the Delta to Monterey which is over 175 miles each way. I would love to try a trip to San Diego or even Mexico one day when I have the luxury of time!

HUMPH - let me know if you make that trip. I'll meet you in LA and caravan down to SD.

So far in this boat, 24NM from our Marina up to Sydney Harbour.
But in October last year, 3 of us motored the Brother in Laws 58' from the Whitsundays down to Brisbane about 530NM we did it in 3 days, the first being 28 hours straight, total motor time was 53hours. We were in luck with the weather, saw many whales. Awesome trip.

I have traveled by boat (my own) from the Southern portion of Maine to the North Carolina/South Carolina boarder, this is a span of about 900 miles, but not all in one trip... The longest total distence traveled in one trip would be going from Norwalk CT to Just outside Montreal Canada and back (850 miles)! This trip was done with just me and my wife 18 years ago in a 1986 250 Sundancer, Some quick stats on that trip:

Round trip in 11 days
Put 90 hours on the motor
Changed the engine oil when we got to Canada
Never burnt even a quart of oil
26 locks there and back
360 gal of fuel @ $1.25 average per gallon (the good old days!)
Zero mechanical failures (not even a ding on the prop)
Bought my first GPS for this trip (Garmin 45)

The only really interesting story from this trip was we were on our way back South in the Champlain canal in heavy rain, between two locks, visability was not good and at every lock there is a water fall near or next to it so water can flow, I guess I missed a marker and went straight when I should have turned toward the lock and got within 100 yards of the water fall! The only thing that alerted me to this mistake was I was watching my depth gauge droping to single digits... Good thing my wife was sleeping at the time!

A couple of years ago, did a 650 mile trip around Lake Huron - without hitting another Great Lake. Penetanguishene (Southern Georgian Bay) to Tobermorey, across the top of Lake Huron to Great Duck Island. Intended to go to Mackinac Island, but couldn't get a slip, so continued up the Detour Passage to Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Afterwards continued back the north channel with various stops (Thessalon, Benjamins, Killarney, Bustards) before getting back to Penetang. In the two week trip, biggest issue was weather - thunderstorms, high winds (and waves) and cooler temperatures than seasonal. Great trip though through a phenomenal boating area.

Hi. The longest trip was from our Marina in Sebastian Fl. to the first lock to Okeechobee and return in one day (120 miles RT) We did this in an open 18 foot Larson bow rider. The boat was safe enough on the intracoastal, but the constant slap of the chop gets to you after a while. That why we upgraded

Somewhere around 1300 miles............Apalachicola FL to Ft. Myers FL to Stuart FL and on down to Fisher Island/Miami, then back from West Palm Beach, across Okeechobee to Boca Grand, then to Clearwater and finally back to Panama City. No problems except missing bouys and day markers in the ICW that were not reported on NOTAM's.

Mike, we just had friends in MDR on the way back from their trip to San Diego. They were there last week and are now in Santa Barbara getting ready to get around Point Conception tomorrow. They left the first week of November and will return home next week so they have been on their boats for 2 1/2 months when complete! The is a 410 Express, a 560DB and a 65 Marquis together on the trip.

not very far on our lakes..straight line about 15 miles maybe
but 150 miles of circles to get there

planning a long trip down the Ohio River this summer...with a stop at the Madison Regatta

2000 miles. Port Charlotte, FL to Rockport, Ontario. 9 weeks, April to June 2011. Total of 3 weeks under repair for sandbar grounding (low tide, uncharted - honest!), fuel solenoid relay replacement, holding tank pipe, battery charger replacement. Plus 2 weeks slow pace waiting for delayed opening of New York State canals.

We had a major WNW swell come in yesterday and there is still a small craft advisory in effect. Point Conception can be rough. Hopefully the weather calms down or they wait one more day.

585 miles from Stratford CT to Buffalo NY.
We do almost the same miles when we go to the Lake Erie Islands and back.
We talk about doing the great circle someday. As the time gets closer, we are starting to think it might be a real possibility.

About 250 miles round trip. We went from Washington's San Juan islands to Desolation sound in B.C. and back in '08. It was a great trip with great boating and small marinas and anchorages. We stayed in the Canadian gulf islands last summer and will be on the list again this year.

Fort Lauderdale, FL to Virginia Beach, VA - about 1100 miles. 7 and 1/2 days. No problems

Virginia Beach, VA to Atlantic City, NJ and back - about 650 miles. 2009, 2010 and 2011. Time varies depending on stops. Only problem was corn stuck in the duckbills on the forward head on the 2010 trip.

New rule: No eating corn on the boat or for three days prior to departure.
