What would you replace a CruisAir 12k BTU with?

damn, I was hoping it was simple

For the difference in price, pay a little extra and get the 14k btu

Well Amazon was quick. I had the parts in under 24 hours and the new capacitor and hard start kit did not work. Compressor seems frozen.

So, next question. 11k or 14k BTU? My boat is very similar in size to the 340DA and the existing 12k BTU CruisAir froze us out. We're in the midwest where it does get hot and humid...

If the 12K froze you out you should have no problem with the 11K. The choice for the 12K unit was probably made because it was the closest in size and maybe already on the high side.

I am putting the 14K in the 340SDA to replace the 12K that was in from Sea Ray - but then again they used the 12K on the 320DA also that had less cabin space. Also with the hot days in NY the unit seemed to fight to keep up with it.

So here's the learning I just had. My boat is a '07 and was made up until 2019. 2011 and later used the 16k unit.

I'll do some more digging into their parts listing tonight before I order. Talk about a first world problem LOL.

You and I both. On the plus side, I have all new A/C water lines in the garage. It's the last set of water lines I have to replace. So I'll replace them now vs in the fall.

I am looking at replacing my Cruisair 12K with a Marineaire 14K. One difference I see is the blower fan outlet is a round 6" opening. The ducting box on my 340SDA is 6x6 which the old cruiseair screwed into and the flex tubes extended from

If anyone has done this before how did you connect the blower to the duct box? Also any other fitment issues on the 340SDA under forward berth?

6"x6" duct box on a 12k unit? That may be what's on mine....need to go to the 6" round as well.

Sea Ray put a 6x6 box after the AC unit to diffuse the air in two directions.

This was not part of the AC unit but the 12k cruisair had a square flange to connect (screw) to the box whereas the marinaire has a 6" round opening.

If I had a 6" flex duct only it would be a snap

I have a similar connection to the CruisAir. I meant to measure it, but is the air exit on the CruisAir just a 6"x6"?

Yes the fan connection was 6x6 (square) with the flange, the opening is slightly smaller as the flange is probably about a 1/2 inch around. The opening in my box was only 4.25 x 3.75.

Perfect. Think I found an adapter at Home Depot that is shipping to a store near me and one on Amazon. Worst case, I'll get one fabbed up locally.

Had to add freon to mine in my 320 DA so I have a leak someplace. 2003 320DA so it will only be a matter of time before it kicks the dust. Unit will soon be 20 years old so no use trying to have someone trace down and try and fix the leak (s). I hope we can get some feedback on 11K vs. 14K so I can get some feedback before I pull the trigger.

320DA is about the size of a 318 (which I had for 5 years) and that had a 10k unit.

What's interesting, is my '07 had a 12k unit. In May '08, they bumped it up to a 14k unit and in June '10 they left the factory with a 16k unit - all CruisAir's.

Ended up going with the 14k unit, from Coastal Climate Control in Maryland. Same price as direct from MarinAire, but ground shipping is two days vs three.

With all the delays as there have been with shipping, I'll take the extra day cushion.

Getting a friend to make up a custom adapter from the MarinAire unit to my existing transition box.

I bought a Marinaire 9K to replace my Cruiseair 12K that bit the dust. This will be my 3rd summer. It is great. Installation was pretty simple. It is a bit taller than the old one so I had to remove a "shelf" in the under berth compartment that the old one sat on. (check the height comparison on yours if you decide to use them) I also had to fashion a copper L-shaped pipe to extend the water inlet because there was no extra water pipe in the sea ray install and I needed about 4 inches because the lines were not an exact alignment. Just plugged in power and the existing water pump wiring into the MarineAire control box and it was gold. The air outlet rotates and I was able to get a perfect set up. The hardest part was running the "phone wire" to the thermostat location.

Its quieter and in our climate the 9K is just as good as the 12K on my 330.

I really like the fact that the thermostat has a lot of options including a pre-set humidity level rather than temperature. I use that when I am away.

Price was good (Total including shipping and taxes was $1,450) and they shipped from Miami to a pickup location in Buffalo that I was able to drive to easily for pick up.
I thought I would post a picture of the 9k installed including my adapter I made to reroute the intake line to fit better.

Nice! My new 14k is in...just breaking for a late lunch and some odds and ends to finish the install.

And the 14k MarinAire is in!

Very thankful I have friends that like to tinker and can make stuff. The CruisAir had a square exit where the MarinAire is a 6" round. Nothing 1/8" aluminum can't handle. Add in water lines on the opposite side and this wasn't as easy as the 6k to 8k upgrade I did on my 26' years ago.

I'm on the boat until July 6th, so she'll get a pretty good workout!
