What would you replace a CruisAir 12k BTU with?

Why would you not replace it with the same size and brand if it worked well for 15 years?

Availability. A friend can't find a new Dometic unit and I can't find pricing online. Years ago I upgraded my 26' from a 6k to a 8k unit, both CruisAir / Dometic.

And a friend put a new Dometic 16k unit in and it's constantly tripping the breaker... need to find out if he's resolved that yet.

Because its twice the price and quality is comparable. Lots of negative reviews on the Dometic stuff of the last few years. It all comes from china anyway. I had a Marinaire on my last boat and it was flawless for the several years I owned it.

Sounding more and more like it's the start capacitator. These two arrive tomorrow, but do I also need to get this assist start, I've circled? If so, does anyone know the part number? @ttmott

I figure I'll screw with that tomorrow and if not, I'll get MarineAire to ship a new one out.

This is the one I added. However, nothing was wrong with my unit. It just helped the compressor start up.

I am looking at replacing my Cruisair 12K with a Marineaire 14K. One difference I see is the blower fan outlet is a round 6" opening. The ducting box on my 340SDA is 6x6 which the old cruiseair screwed into and the flex tubes extended from

If anyone has done this before how did you connect the blower to the duct box? Also any other fitment issues on the 340SDA under forward berth?

Thanks, @bbwhitejr. Just add it on to the terminals for the common and herm?

@KevinC why the 14k over the 11k unit?

I figured if Sea Ray rated it for 12K then I would not want to down size it (and they also used the 12k on the 320DA). While I don't know if my unit was slowly degrading over the years but I like to get my cabin cold on warm days and I did not feel it was keeping up with it.

Also, someone on the 340SDA also recommended the 14K unit.

@KevinC
SeaRay put something like these under my helm

That is what I was thinking of using. Did they cut the sides to make room for the flex ducts ?

Not that I recall. Will take a pic of it this week, or when you come down for the zipper, we can look together
;)
