What was your first boat? FIRST SEA RAY?

My first boat was a 16’ Chris Craft (early 70s) that my dad got for me. I was 10 yrs old at the time. It was originally an I/O. The engine was long gone so we patched the hole and cut the transom for a 65hp Merc outboard. My dad lived on the water and as you would expect, I was like a kid in a candy store.

My first SR is my current boat. I purchased it early this year and love it! I’m a little depressed right now because they shrink wrapped it this morning.

First boat was an '88 Baja Force 216. Bought it right out of college (dumb). She was a chick magnet but i got married in '88 too so that pretty much screwed that deal up (dumber).

My next boat was my first SR ... '89 268 Sundancer.

1991 310 Sundancer
1996 400 Express Cruiser
2000 400 Sedan Bridge

...and then the 480. Six SR's and they've all been my favorite boat at one time or another. Next in line will be a big 'ol sportfish or maybe a 560/550/58 Sedan Bridge...maybe in a couple years but i'm in no hurry.

Sold at loss...Now 14' Mirrocraft I was given and did re-do...20hp Johnson
Also found this summer 18' F18 1979 Alumacraft(Queen Merrie Hull) and 20hp Johnson.
SORRY to be longwinded but if I hadnt have bought the MONEY PIT I would have a 26-28' Searay now. Oh well..I learned.

I grew up on boats, all owned by my parents, spent almost 20 years away from boating, but when I came back and bought my first boat in 2003 it was an '03 320 Sundancer. An '06 40Da and '06 44DB later and now looking to move up again, Sea Ray's are all I've owned and my next one will likely be a Sea Ray too.

This brand new 2010 Glastron GS 249 was my first boat.

Sweet!

I wish I would have talked to some "boat" people and maybe rode on a few before I just bought what I thought I wanted. You were either lucky or had some good friends who steered you into what is obviously a great decision.

Hope your enjoying the boat parade tonight over there is Gig Harbor emoticonthumb.gif

1995 Silverton 36' Sedan Cruiser, twin volvo, supercharged, turbocharged diesels. I had never piloted a boat. Flew to Tampa, bought it, and piloted it back to VA along the ICW. If I only knew then what I know now. First Sea Ray is what I have now.

My first boat was a 1970 Sea Ray 185. It was green (that 70's green) inside and out and the wife named it the S.S Guacamole. Cosmetically, it was a beautiful boat. Not a bit of oxidation on the gel coat and not a single blemish on the interior vinyl. We had it for 3 seasons. It ran great for the first 2 and then started to break down every time we went out during the third season. I tried to fix it and replaced just about everything on the motor that I could but it just kept getting sick. After 4 or 5 times in a row of it breaking down the third season, Shelly (the admiral) told me she would never step foot on it again no matter what I did to it. I loved the boat and tried to get it fixed. The last time I used it, we went out with some friends and Shelly stuck to her word and rode with them on their boat. My buddy and I thought we had fixed the problem(s) and I was really excited to show her up. I splashed it and fired her up and all was well. We left the marina and headed out up river to a restaurant. Of course, it died and I had to get towed back to the dock by the USCG Auxillary guys that just happened to be near by. Shelly and the others went on to lunch and my buddy and I emptied my cooler at the dock. I sold the boat a short time later. I only saw it twice after that and each time I saw it it was crusing by with no apparent problems. I was so sad.........

My first boat was my Shakespeare 14-R with a Merc 110 9.8 hp and center console. It looks like a Mckee Craft or Whaler and has a center console. I still use it when I want to save on gas and go out on the upper Potomac or lakes with a 10 hp limit. It was $900 back in 1989 and I was 14. I had to cut a lot of grass to buy it and I'm still getting my money ouut of it. In 1993 I wanted to ski and go fast so I purchased a Stingray 556zp. It was a nice boat but nowhere near the quality of my next which was a Sea Ray 180 BR. I still miss that boat but I forget about it quickly when I take the 205 sport out. I also have a 1993 Ghenoo.

My first boat was a 10 ft hydroplane that I designed and built in my Dad's shop out of 1/4" plywood and 2 X 10's. I was 12.

I learned 3 significant lessons from the experience: 1. A boat needs enough of a bow angle so the bow goes over and not thru or under the waves, 2. You cannot bail all of the lake out of your cockpit when you submarine the bow of a hydroplane, and, 3. Your Dad's 1953 10 hp Johnson will come apart if you over speed it by using the fishing boat prop instead of a speed prop.

LOL, My dad had an Ol' 58 10 H.P. Johny.

4. 10' Hydro's are NOT made to run in 25 knot winds with 3' chop (especially at night)! Not that I had this experience in 1976 or anything... At least this one had a 20HP Merc.
