I heard this from an old power boater and what he tells people who inquire about going out with him, and he runs a ship-shape boat.

With boating one can usually depart on time, but as to when you arrive back, well be prepared to not be on a schedule. You may just have to debark at another location and fly or rent a car to get back.

He bases this on weather, tides, closed channels, break downs, etc.

He also added this:

With boating the more one attempts to follow a schedule the more things which usually go wrong :wow:

On an inland lake there are really not too many places to go. I know every inch of our lake so neither of your choices really fits us.

Like many others we just enjoy being on the water whether it's cruising or just anchoring and enjoying the water and all the surroundings. We also enjoy having family on board and all the fun that comes with pulling the grandkids on tubes or just swimming in a quiet cove.

I don't care where i go, as long as I go.
...Amen Brother.
Me too +1:thumbsup:

Once on the water - all is good!!

Not if it's like this all day long.

 I vote for getting there!!! As the journey with a 5 and 6 year old gets, old very quickly...
If they aren't into it.............Two Words Nintendo DS

To me it depends on conditions.
If it's snotty, I want the destination and a cold beer. This video is in 35 knot winds that kept us in Grief Point for 2 days last summer. It wasn't our intended destination but it worked.

If it's calm, I'd stay out until the tank goes dry.

I am going with the neither group, a few weeks back I put the boat in and we just rode for a little over 4 hours, stopped a few times to watch the porpoise swim around and play, explored a little new water, just enjoyed a nice day on the water with no destination. This past weekend I pulled the boat to Central Fl, Lake Griffin State Park, put it in the water there on Friday, just went out for a ride, Sat went out looking for fish, found none but covered most of the lake and enjoyed all of it. Yes I do like the destinations also.

I regularly boat on Coralville lake Reservoir in Iowa. There IS NO destination.... only the getting there!

I chose the destination over the journey because my recent cruise is still in my mind, where every few days we had to make a 3-5 hour cruise to get to the next marina. That's tiring, and sometimes just boring, especially when you are the only boat out there.

However, that trip was the exception rather than the rule. Around home, most times, the run is more interesting than hanging out at the destination.

I would like to vote yes to both.

I didn't have too read all of them, but I'm the type that is tickled pink to get back to the dock under my own power...... time irrelavent...especially on a new boat

We generally burn 3/4 tank of fuel for every outing. That gives us a pretty good day out on the water while having a reserve to make sure we get home. Occasionally we refill on the water and burn another 1/2 tank. I don't recall how big the tank is, I want to say 26 gallons. Since no cabin and no head on board, we are limited to our activities. Heavy wind or wave will definitely curtail our time out and distance from home port. "Day boaters" best decribes us.

We do a lot of putzing around our lake at slow no wake speeds (the law) until the end of June. Then it's a 10 hour run to Harbor Springs to begin our 5 weeks of living and cruising northern Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. We go to Wisconsin, the North Channel, Beaver Island, Macinac Island, and wher ever we fell like going.
