I have noticed that there seem to be only 2 types of boaters:

1) Those who wish to get to the destination as quickly as possible and are 'all about the destination'.

and

2) Those that think getting there is half the fun. Destination is important but you like the boat ride getting there and back.

Which are you?

Neither. The destination is just an excuse to go for a boat ride. Or don't even need a destination as an excuse to go for a boat ride. My friends who have a go-fast don't have a destination, but they sure do get there and back quickly.

+2  I am happy just out wasting gas, guess my boat is still small enought that the gas bill does not hurt as much!

The ride is a lot of the fun. I love watching everyone out on the water and being part of the action. On holiday weekends we'll take a slow cruise to the destination and claim our spot. Then we jump in the bow rider and check out the lake from time to time tubing and skiing towards the end of the day when most have gone for the day. Other days we'll just take cruises around the lake.

Agree with Frank. Neither. Usually no destination, just out cruising and enjoying getting into the wind.

Burning fuel baby, that's what its all about... just running circles around the Gulf is a blast.

The neither will fall under the 'half the fun is getting there'. Even if you don't have a finite destination picked out. I guess your destination is back to your home. Guess I should have clarified a little better, but I agree, burn fuel baby, burn fuel.

It's an inverse relationship for me:

The more anticipation I have for the destination, the less I enjoy the journey - particularly if it's a long distance across open water. Those familiar with the North Channel of Lake Huron can probably relate. There's not much to remember about going in a straight line for a few hundred miles, but once you get there, wooooow.

In contrast, one of my highlights of last summer was a "SeaRay Dinghy Ride" around the marina. We traveled from pier to pier picking up partying passengers on a perfectly still, hot summer night. Music was blasting, people dancing in the cockpit, making fools of themselves... We had a total blast, but never went above idle and logged less than a mile.

I don't care where i go, as long as I go.

I am just sayin'.. . .

. . .to all those who voted for "The Journey". . .

. . . .you are 1/2 way to becoming blowboaters!

I just like being on the boat. I don't really care where I'm going as long as it's nice. The trip is more important than the destination.

I thoroughly enjoy all time on the water except in extremely foggy or rough conditions. When the weather is nice, there's nothing better than a scenic cruise to a destination. Once safely secured at that destination, the boat assumes the new role of a temporary summer home. Having the 320 this year will enhance that experience immensely. Now if the weather cooperates this summer....

Just being on the boat and doing something is good enough for me. The destination can be good as well - we now have several restaurants we can get to by water. The whole family is able to unwind out on the water. My 9 year old son usually goes asleep shortly after hitting the water - loves the sound of the motors and just being out there. Ah.... therapy.... best thing we've ever done as a family is buy this boat.:smt038

I voted for half the fun is getting there, BUT!...
I'd like to say I love both, and it depends on the destination. I pick destinations that will be fun when you arrive, but really enjoy the trip. That's the adventure part.
With no destination, a slow cruise is great, and a stress reliever.
When my destination is a island in the Abacos, I find myself running as fast as I can to get the party started!

Don't know yet, it's are 1st yr boating.
