I purchased a couple of 6 1/2" speakers for the bow. My 185 didn't come with any, so I'm going to have to cut the holes out. What should I use to make the cuts? Any imput/techniques/warnings?

Thanks,
Jake

I would suggest a roto-zip. Mask the cut area with painters tape to keep the fiberglass edges from chipping.

cover your eyes for the first cut; I couldn't do it I ended up having to take it to a shop to have it done. :smt089

The good thing is my buddy just bought a 185, so I can get some placement measurements from his boat.

I've got a buddy with a roto-zip, so I'm good there. And yes, that first cut is going to be nerve racking... no guts, no glory!

Thanks

I cut an 8" hole in my last boat for a sub-woofer.....talk about nerve wracking.

I installed front speakers just forward of the grab handles. they look great!

Cut slow and don't let the rot-zip get away from you..... you should also get your budy to hold a shop-vac for the dust.

Don't know if the speakers will be placed where there is vinyl but if so, be sure to not cut away too much of the vinyl. you'll want to leave enough vinyl to wrap around to the inside of the hole and glue it on the inside. That would keep the exposed vinyl tight and prevent the vinyl from being pulled away from the speakers.

if no vinyl then, nevermind...
