What makes a Mag and Mag?

I already have the 8.1 sitting in my garage. All I have to do now is turn the computer off long enough to install it :smt021

Too bad we are about as far apart as you can get...or I would say haul all your stuff over to my shop and we'll drag out the air tools, engine hoist, a keg and put a couple slabs of ribs on the grille and get busy!!!

Funny  That would be good. Seems if I make it out to the boat 100' away. Just keep adding more work for myself. Went out there a little while ago to prep for some transom and side painting so I can get the pvc mounted for the elec to run through. At the same time looking at some spots I would like to add a little extra epoxy resin, which i'm about out of. Maybe even add some 24 oz woven glass in the corners  Ive Used up two gals already. While I was out there, Decided installing a new water heater would be an easier install with the engine and fuel tank out. Came in the house to order a $220.00 6 gal kuuma. Did a quick search of the best heaters on the market. Find out the isotemp stainless are the best at 600.00. Ouch. Not going to have a cheap alum tank corroding and contaminating the cooling on my 8.1 and im overbudget now so I should rough it without hot water for now.
Now im back on the computer again :smt024 :smt021
I keep forgetting to drink my Becks beer. Thats why nothings getting done. Bought a case at the beginning of this project. Might have drank four so far.

Your buying a 45' DA? Nice

that idea actually sounds pretty good! i mean, there are people probably closer to all of us than we think...why not find out who's close to you and get a boat repair party started!

can you tell i'm tired of fixing this thing by myself?

sounds like a GOOD plan
What? Get drunk, Fall in bilge, Then take a Nap
Still enjoying the boat without having to rinse the salt off. And its so stable on the Trl
Now that im throwing money away by putting off getting back to work. Its time to get serious with this thing.
Besides, Theres lots of big Tuna, Dorado, and Yellowtail offshore to go chase after now.
jakebrake,
Are you doing a bunch of work on a boat now?

That engine does show some nice numbers.
If I was freshwater into going fast a lot. That engine would be a very good choice. It may be a bit overstressed for long term dependability.
With my boat being a converted fishing boat. I kind of wish I had a simple carbed big block with 500 lbs Tq. Not enough power in a 454ci and I could not get a turn key 502ci.
500 lbs of Tq is was needed to move my boat at least 26 mph at 3000rpm or under. Hopefully having easier starting with a EFI engine is going to be worth it.
Would be fun to have the money to drop in and try out different engines at will. Maybe even let someone else do the work

They have people that do that?

I tryed that once. I let someone work on my Alpha Drive. It lasted 50 hrs.
Hey steve. I did call Less hoping he would have the Merc drilling fixture for the transom. He doesn't, and he did not want to risk screwing up my boat. Good mechanic, Usually they would take your money. Then do a botched job.

I don't know what all is involved in drilling your transom, but for what it's worth here is how I would go about it. I would make a template out of cardboard or plywood using the transome assembly as a foot print. It would be a lot easier to place properly then a heavy transome assembly. If you used poster board you could contact cement it to the transome and cut and drill through it.

Thanks steve,
I do have a paper template. Have to be exact with the angle of the drill. Drilling through 2" of transom so the nuts and studs line up on the assembly could be a bitch. The Merc drilling fixture holds the bits at the proper angle. Makes it more of a no brainer. May do this on Thursday.
Still waiting on the fuel tanks, Y-Pipe, and engine alignment tool. The drilling fixture is like 800.00 :wow: Not buying that.
Already two hrs on the computer. Wasted parts research. Time to do some more epoxy work. Relocating Batt charger and installing 3/4 marine ply backing blocks to eliminate any screws going into the transom for trim pumps, fuse blocks, etc, Sure beats drilling a transom without the proper tool.
