Hey everyone. I just bought a 1989 Sundowner 268. I'm having trouble identifying the panel pictured here or testing its functionality. Is this for some type of ballast system? image.jpg

Does it have a spotlight? Looks a bit like the control panel for ours

It does have a spotlight. That is it. Thank you so much.

I'm a little dissaspointed it doesn't have a ballast system. With a lot of people on the boat everyone wants to hang near the back and it can be hard to get on plane. Do you have any tips for that?

What ever it is, it was added after the factory had it. Spot light would have 2 switches and the toggle to turn the light 360 degree's

Fairly certain now it's the spotlight control. Still working on this planing issue. What types of things should I look into for the difficulty getting up on plane?

Correct prop, WOT engine rpm's, if the engine isn't getting up to proper rpm's the prop could have too much pitch. Worst news would be weak engines but I wouldn't guess that first. Rpm's for a start.

What is the correct prop for this motor? PO mentioned issues with the prop and I want to make sure he replaced the prop with the correct one.

Thanks!

The real answer for getting on plane with a full deck is the one your passengers don't want to hear. put a couple bodies on the v-berth in the cabin and she'll pop right up. I had to do that several times with my 250 when loaded to capacity. My mother-in-law was not amused.

Yup!

4 good size guys in the back end of a 268 and she will struggle to plane. That's the nature of these beasts. They are already very stern heavy even before you add people.

One way I have improved this is to run a 16x16 prop and weld extensions on the trim tabs. This all helps greatly, but she will still work to get up on occasion especially with full fuel and water.

Oh, and your panel has been customized...

what is the power in that boat ?

it was available in a few configurations.

my advice will be to go 4 blade stainless prop 1 pitch down. this will give you more stern lift.

I guess I need new glasses. it is the spot light panel. I thought that button looking thing was a fuse holder. I was wrong.

Mike

My boat has all 3 controls on one panel, one is spot/flood control, one is light movement, mine is a joystick and lastly one controls the speed of the lights movement.
Hope this helps.
