What do you use for engine oil on 454?

I currently have an 1988 340 Sundancer with twin 454 big blocks. Last year I used straight 30 weight motor oil. What do people use for bands and weight?

What is in the Merc book SAE 40. Quaker State, Penzol, and name brand gas company oil. Does not seem to make any difference.
1750 hours and use 1/2 quart per 100 hours per engine.

SAE 30 Rotella.

+1... just clicked over 600hrs and I don't use a drop of oil change it every year at 50 hrs...:thumbsup:

I know several engine builders that insist on Rotella, and claim that it has zinc in it which is good for the Cams/valvetrain.

I have noticed since moving to rotella when I change my oil it is just as clear as when I put it in. The other stuff was always dark or black... I will not use anything else...

Wow! That is all over the place. Last year I used straight 30, but it was hard to find around here. Off to search for Rotella!

They just opened up a Farm Tractor Supply not to far away. I went in there and I was shocked, there it was sitting on the shelf. Bought 2.

I bought the 5qt jugs at Farm and Fleet for $14.00 last fall. I bought all they had, which unfortunately was only 3 of em.
