What can you tell me about 5.7 merc bluewater engines?

actually, that's incorrect! The designation "Bluewater" seems to have mislead a fair amount of people into taking it literally, but in reality, it has nothing to do with the cooling system. It was a series of engines, which came in both closed and raw-water cooling configurations. (note my sig and trust me on this!)

While we're at it, the "Horizon" series had nothing to do with the pursuit of sunsets. :)

So what's MAG stand for?

I had twin 5.7 inboards in my 300 DA... They were great.... Not one problem in 600 hours. Just changed the Raw water pumps twice, oil and plugs... But for a 330 it might be a bit under powered with a full tanks of gas, gear and people... Take if for a ride and see how you like it... Make sure to bring some fat friends to sit in the stern...

Do you always cross your arms for pictures? Your two for two. Relax, life is short.

I just drove 3 1/2 hrs from a third failed sea trial that involved a bad engine, $585 to a surveyor, five 2/12 hr round trips to the boat, and almost three months of my time....hence the crossed arms. Actually I was smiling while looking at that spotless 330!

There was a big to-do a few years ago when a CSR member posted about a boat he was looking to buy - a 2001 340DA (like Rod's boat) with 6.2s in it. Many felt the boat would be a bit slow and maybe a bit harder to get rid of at resale time. It's important to note that the late 90s 330DA and the early '00s 340DA share the same hull and are pretty close in weight.

Dave, you need to get a surveyor on retainer. Or at least get something like "buy 4 surveys, get the 5th one at 1/2 price."

thats good to know. is there a good chance a lot of them had closed cooling?
i ask as that the way i'v seen the few i'v seen?

Awesomely clean looking boat. Good luck on it.

I'll admit to being a little jealous. The 330 with 5.7s has a ton more room in the bilge. It looks like you could actually stand between the motors. There is just enough room between my 7.4s for my fist to fit.

anyone notice the gold package (remember that?) on the Sea Ray logo's ??? 310DA at our dock has it...
yes there was 310 like ours a slip or 2 down form us that had all gold trim ect.

Okay lets clear up some confusion. The 5.7 bluewater engine pic is in a 1999 Silverton 330 Sport bridge. The layout of this boat is fantastic. I was impressed with the fit & finish also.
Go ahead...start the flogging.

Aw shucks, all you need to do is pull the exhaust systems and you'll have all the room you need ;-)

That's what's so great about the '90s 370DA and '00s 380DA and '00s 360DAs are great. You can sit down btwn the motors. It's all about beam!

Dave, was the Silverton the boat that failed the survey?

(NO FLOGGING!)

You might want to see if there is a Silverton Member site and ask if the power is adequate. I've seen identical models but they had 7.4's (usually Crusaders).

Good luck with it!

No, a Carver 325 failed the sea trial. Service manager sent me a pic about an hour ago of a small hole in the top of the valve.

Bummer!

A friend had a 35 Silverton Sport Bridge with t-496 HO's, and it only got to the mid 30's, which I found very surprising for that much power. I'd think the 350's might be a bit sluggish.

I've got those engines. Never a problem and close to 800 hours.... You'd look good in a 95 300 and save some money too. Cash is king. :)

Nice 300DA. Those are pretty boats. I am stuck on a bridge boat though and a 300 is not a big enough jump from my 290DA.
Here is a pic the service manager sent me of the hole in the valve of the 5.7 crusader (in the Carver 325 I was sea trialing last week).

That is a pretty big boat to push around with 5.7's. My friend has the 351 Sport Bridge with big blocks and it cruises at 17 to 18 knots at 3500 rpm's. Great boat at the dock or if you don't travel very far but if your boating style takes you all over the place, you may regret that boat.
