What can be done to quiet a Kohler generator?

As stated....

Less than $200.00. Didn't need to remove anything to install, just the old one. Duel stage is the only way to go... Ask Gunn to take some video with sound.

That's why they(Searay) went to the duel later,it rocks!

Why add any metal to the wet system with a muffler add on? This is all fiberglass!

I assume this price was from the mfg direct? MM

Did not get a chance to capture a video of it running, but here is a photo of the muffler. I did find a decal on the muffler, but unfortunately it faces the port gunwale and so I cannot read it at all. Maybe if I remember to get a mirror, I might be able to get the information from it.

Mike keep me posted...with the amount of time we run our genny this would be nice to add.

I am watching this thread. My 3kw Onan makes a lot of racket.

Ok, I found a video I took about a month ago taken from the cockpit with the generator running. Didn't have a video of down in the cabin, but I'll take one next time the boat's in the water...

PS> Couldn't figure out how to embed the video directly?

Great, I can't wait to hear (or rather not hear) the results. Was anyone ever able to determone if the one Tom has is a Centek or not? I did not see if that was determined. Last I saw, beachcomber could not remember the name of the place he got it and Tom could not see the tag because it was too close to the Gunwale. Forgive me if I missed that somewhere.

I'm fairly certain that was it...

Try wrapping your genny compartment with Dynamat. You can get it at car audio centers or Crutchfield online. They also make a heat shield version for car firewalls. It absorbs noise and vibration.

It removed all of the hollow drone sound that is from the exhaust. The genny itself wasn't my issue. With a fan running, you didn't even hear the genny running.

I just searched all through the house for a small flat mirror so I could get the info off of the decal, but in a house full of girls, not one!? Go figure. If I find one, I'll be sure to post the results.

Thanks Tom, I was just more curious than anything. Since you have had such good results with yours, I just wanted to see if were all talking about the same manufacturer. Beachcombersc said he thinks it was so it probably is.

I am convinced by the design of the unit, they do offer different colors, and they responded as beachcombersc said. I will keep you posted. MM

Any updates yet Mike?

The muffler came in about 2 weeks ago and was too tall to put the top exaust hose on in the space I have. ( I have a ridiculously large elbow that connects to the top of the muffler.) I called Centek and discussed the issue with them and they had me ship back the model I had for a side discharge model eliminating the elbow and another exaust connection. It should go in tomorrow. MM

Well it is in, that was easy. The gennie was guiet enough to carry on a conversation with the bilge open while we were checking for leaks. It seems much quieter but I will let you know when it is under load on the water. MM
