What can be done to quiet a Kohler generator?

Mine, without the sound shield is tolerable. My buddy had the same Kohler in his Larsen, but with the shield. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Are you trying to reduce noise in the cockpit while out or in the cabin for overnights?

For me the dual stage muffler cut cockpit exhaust noise significantly and quieted the cabin some.

When we're anchored and swiming, it's pretty annoying. I'm for anything that helps both...the cabin is not as bad as the exterior noise.

The muffler is the least expensive and was well worth the cost. All the links are in this thread.

I'm looking into upgrading to the dual stage muffler as well. I think it would really help us as most of the noise seems to come from the exhaust while we are in the cockpit area?

Squirrel Cage blowers took blower noise down from 62.5dBa to 51.5 dBa - so an 11 dBa reduction - with ZERO reduction in airflow.
And took the loaded Generator+Blower down from 66.2 dBa to 63 dBa - so a 3 dBa reduction.

So now I'm just hanging in there for the sound shield fitting if I can find some good "base" material to mount it on. That should hopefully take another 6 dBa off at least (= 50%+ reduction). A lot of noise is also reflected out of the "air intakes" - and that could do with some noise reduction material on the walls there.

Can you provide some info on the blowers you installed?

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to purchase the Centek dual stage muffler? Most places I've checked show it as being out of stock.

The dual stage is a special order from Centek. I called Centek for the Searay Specific part number, my marina ordered it up and it was made to order by Centek. 3 weeks to manufacture and then another two weeks shipping to the PNW (Canada). I took Monico Mikes suggestion and am very pleased with te result

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but I too have a noisy exhaust. The generator itself is quiet and has a sound-shield. It's only the exhaust externally. Has anyone changed out their exhaust muffler since 2015 or have any input?
