Too good to be true?! Seems like. So I email the guy (who is also selling a MasterCraft for an incredible deal). He was nice enough to reply. Here is some of the reply I get:

Hello Sir,
Thanks for your Email and Interested with our Sea Ray 260 Sundancer.
The 2005 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer still available for sale,Price is US$25.000 Included Trailer.
The boat is in Excellent Condition, only used 90 Hours.
Boat located is in Manado/Indonesia,if you are serious want buy this boat we can arrange a shipping to you.

So what do you think?! I'm betting he'll reply and say that shipping is included in the price to my home. And if I don't like it once I see it, he'll pay for return shipping. Think so?

Gotta run, have to get a money order out to Indonesia in the morning before all of you try to steal my hot deal...

NO!!! I WOULDNT TRUST IT......NO NO :smt009

I found a brand new Westerbeke 5 KW generator that retails for about $7K for $2K in Indonesia... I passed it up... Even if it was legit, the shipping cost and the possible damage during shipping would make it too much trouble... I have been to Indonesia, and have no desire to go back to check the merchandise... Good luck and getting a survey on that boat...

When I was shoping for my boat I ran across the same scam. My "seller" had a hard luck story & the "supposed" boat was in Las Vegas. I remember being so disapointed when I realized it was a scam. I'll bet after this you will get no valid information until you agree to have it shipped to you.

Dont trust them!!!!!!!
they are fake!!!!!!!!!!

I founded last year 2006 260DA geny ac and pewter in Singapur in the used boat part in the boattest.com. They offered me very low price $35.000. They send me the pics of every detail and I could trust them.
But when I told them to I bougt my ticket and in a few days I'm gonna fly there so meet me at the airport, they answeres me dont come nowadays were gonna Japan ten days later lets mail.

When they return ten days later I mailed them to Im gonna visit them they answered dont come just send us the transportation fee $4000 (from Singapore to Istanbul imposible it is $20-25K) so I realize that they are fake.

My wifes cousin works in Singapur for Colgate-Palmolive and I wanted from him to visit their place. Cousin answered me " the adress you gave me to check is a construction site and nobody knows them, Singapore is a very small island to check every place by car in an hour.

After that I mailed him to I'm at the airport lets meet at the hotel they answered me we had to move to Indonesia.

So I searched again the used boat sites in USA found that boat I'd wanted to buy in Texas.

Their names is

Andi Pratama Harahap
Jln. Harahap Timber No. 88,
Balikpapan,
Kalimantan Timur,
76101, Indonesia,

You know what? Guys like that usually have two or three boats that they can sell - they usually look EXACTLY the same, too. I'll buy one, too. Maybe we can split the shipping?

ps: me thinks he's just kiddin' around. :smt001

Scam!

I ran across several of these "sellers' when I was boat shopping last fall.

"Great boat, low hours, like new, cheap, trailer, a bag of money in the glove box, and your own crew. Oh yea, the boat is boxed and stored somewhere I am unaware of. Send me a money order and I will ship it to you. Deal?"

If it's too good to be true....

Ha, Ha, :smt021 AGREE...

Same here, I emailed a few of these scam artists and the deal they were trying to get me to do is mind numbing! Send me the money now then I will ship the boat to you. If you don't like what you see refuse it and I will refund the money. I told them to ship it and I will hand them cash on the spot!

This is a strange scam but I guess all it takes is one idiot every few months and they make pretty good money doing it! :smt021

Steal a few pics off the internet... $50 for an ad... pretty good "R.O.I."

I hate thieves.

yea, I was just kiddin'.

Last summer I ran into a very similiar type of deal on another website. Emailed the guy and he sent me more pictures. Great boat; 280 with generator on a trailer for $25,000 I think. He then proceeded to tell me it was in a container in Jupiter, FL ready to be shipped. I wanted to drive down and see it. No, he was out of country on business and was the only one authorized to open it.

I then proceeded to just waste his time. Played a sob story on him telling him this was a deall too good to pass up and I've have to hold one of my kids out of college for a year to buy it...but I *really* wanted it. So he told me he trusted and was glad I was being -honest with him (yes, he said that!), and he cut me $3k off the deal.

I also noticed that the pics on the website ad were not the same as the ones he sent me. Different canvas; different trailer. He said he was sorry and that one of them was the one he had upgraded to and was keeping.

He'd have it shipped for free and if I didn't like it, he would ship it back for free. Our money would be in an escrow account. But he didn't want to use the escrow site I wanted to use.

In the end, I got tired of the play and called him out. Never heard from him again.

Funny thing is my cousin also played him for awhile too on the same boat.

Tom

Tom ... That was the same thing that happened to me. I had to think, how gullible did this weenie think I was? Then I thought, he wouldn't be doing this if there weren't people who were sending him money. I too played the same e-mail game with him for days and then called him out. He just vanished. I was just starting to get to like him too.

I ran across the same scam many times on Craigslist while looking to purchase my boat. I only made one inquiry and the response was very similar to yours. I just ran into the same thing while searching for a used car. It is most definitely a scam. I just write a totally obnoxious email back using some colorful language. Then I tell them I am calling the police. That stops the comunication!

There's no real way to stop people (=garbage) like this, is there?

What idiot would send $25,000 over seas for a boat they have never seen, and trusting the person to ship? Are we Americans that stupid?

One of these scammers hijacked my boat ad when I posted my boat for sale on boattrader.com.

They were able to hack the site, and change my ad. Boattrader blamed it on me, saying I gave my password and account info away. (BS!).

Anyway, I only realized that I had a problem when two people left me a VM saying they wanted to buy my boat. They saw my "hijacked" and low-ball ad on boatrader, and recognized the boat from my usedboat.com ad. So, they contacted me through usedboat.com and tried to buy my boat at the $25K it was listed on boattrader.

Boattrader was very slow in dealing with this, and was almost rude to me. After several days of re-establishing my account, posting my ad again (only to have it "hijacked again in a few hours) was just too much. Boattrader needs to update their security software and update their website!

I contacted the scammer who hijacked my ad. They told me the boat was in Las Vegas, and that the ad had a misprint on the location. The writer claimed to be a recent widow who was trying to quickly sell her dead husband's boat. She would ship it anywhere in the country for the ridiculous price, just send a $5K deposit to hold it.

She gave a Las Vegas address. The street existed, but the number was not right (the series of the number was correct, but that exact number did not exist -- had to look hard to figure out the address was bogus).

These folks are smart, and they prey on the greedy and stupid. In the end, the could have cost me a sale or two because folks interested in my boat did not know if I was legit or not. And boattrader disavowed all knowledge and wanted me to renew my ad.......NOT!

i actually just listed my 260DA 2003 model on boats.com because they will list it for 6 weeks and for the same price you get it listed on boattrader.com for 2 weeks. It's amazing about these scammers and how they will try anything. I was toying with one a few years ago when trying to seel my 18' boat.

LMAO !! Oh, did I mention I have some beautiful beachfront property in Florida he says after the deal.... and now ROFL !!

I think they're back at it with the 260DA ad.

Last week I saw it on Craigslist for Las Vegas - this time a 2006 with 90 hrs for $25,000

It was only posted for one day then it was gone.
