Anyone found a aftermarket source for the cap rotar and plug wires for a Westerbeke 4.5 or 7.0 generator? Westerbeke is very pround of these parts and the prices seem way out of line.

It's a Mitsubishi distributor on a Mitsubishi engine that is generally not sold here in the US. The engine is also installed in some Toro garden equipment, so you might be able to get a cap and rotor from them, except there's no guarantee about ignition protection. Oopsie!

So... Grit your teeth and pay the man. Sorry. But I feel your pain. Want a $12 journal bearing? $100 piston? $180 set of rings? Parts for that engine are just expensive.

Best regards,
Frank

Thanks Frank. Ahh the capative parts business, got to love it. I guess after 13 seasons and 675 hours I can spring the outrageous price to replace what appears to be the original cap rotor and plug wires.

NO NEED to get sodomized on wires. Take them to Pep Boys and match 'em up. Do you know the displacement of the engine? 3 or 4 cylinders? Give me a day and the specs and I'll find what euro super sub compact that engine was used in back in the early-mid 90s.

Here's the POS my quicksilver was made from...

My engine is the MA10S Inline 4. The displacement, bore and stroke all match up. Since this car never made to our shores (despite being as popular in Europe as the Fiat 500), I asked the guy in Autozone to show me wires for a 1986 Nissan Pulsar. The Pulsar had a larger displacement (1.6L) but the wires had the same exact boot design and were only 2" longer.

Man, you just GOTTA love Wickipedia...

I changed the plugs back in 2006, but the rest of Just Ducky's genset's ignition system is original. Runs fine. Started yesterday in less than 2 seconds. Started today immediately. Good enough.

Best regards,
Frank

I have a '96 9.9 hp 4 stroke which I believe is the same engine as yours. It runs fine for a while, then quits and won't start. After sitting for a while, it runs fine again. It's getting fuel. I haven't had an opportunity to check for spark yet when it is dead. I suspect the ignition module, (power pack?), is failing at a certain temperature.*

I need a few parts for my Westerbeke, isn't there a place in Brick or Pt. Pleasant?
New to this area..thanks

Silver Cloud Marina has Westerbeke parts, and he is near you... They installed my new 5KW and they are very nice to work with... Ask for Dave...
