My 4.5 westerbeke shut down on me while I was actually watching the exhaust pumping. Was running fine, then a little white smoke and then dies. It ended up being the belt on the water pump which actually broke. Anyway, I changed the belt, and now the gen won't run unless I depress the preheat button. Once I let go, it dies. After reading numerous posts on the site and reading the manual, it seems like my first course of action is to bypass the different switches. What is the proper way to bypass them? Do I disconnect the 2 female plugs off of the switch then place a wire touching both of these female plugs together?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Westerbeke 4.5- what is wrong?

:huh:pls someone help! my husband and i were leaving ft myers to bring our boat home to homestead fl. as we started our voyage, our water pump went first, then a continuous high pitch beeping and light on the dash showed generator...the generator cuts off. we tried to start it back up and after a few tries it does start, but it will either cut off or we would just have to turn it off cause of the continuous beeping. we are new at this as you all can tell by now, the boat is a 98' and we dont know if we are doing something wrong. needless to say, we crossed ockeechobee lake without air or water, but managed to make it home in one piece (sort of) ... pls anyone help!:smt100
