We are getting a weak water flow from our AC. Has anyone rebuilt one of these or just replace? New pump is $350 and the wet end kit is $110.

Don't want to waste the $$$ if the wet end rebuild won't work.

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Mike.

It may not be the pump....
Did you check the intake strainer and flush out the cooling line? When I bought my boat the previous owner (unknown to me) had sucked up some mud from sitting in a shallow slip at a marina and it partially blocked the system. The blockage was inside the a/c itself
I flushed it out with a garden hose (dockside water pressure) and a lot of junk came out.
Also check the coolant water hose connection to the a/c unit and make sure it hasn't kinked for some reason.

If all that is clear, I would test the pump by disconnecting the output side hose and let the pump discharge into a bucket while you time the GPM to see if it is in spec.

And if dockside water pressure won't do it, cleaning with Barnacle Buster or Rydlyme can help, too.

This is very god advise. I did check the strainer and it looked good and clean but did not flush anything out. I will absolutely do all the easy stuff before the pump rebuild. - Thank you very much

If cleaning and checking things still doesn't help, take the pump out. Pull the wet end off of the motor. Disassemble it and you will find a small magnetic impeller. It should spin very freely on the thin ceramic shaft. If it does not, take some real fine emory cloth and smooth up the shaft. Wire in a 110v 3-prong plug on the motor and you can bench test before reinstalling in the boat.
