water tank additive

Do you just add vodka once after bleach treatment? How long do you let the vodka sit in lines?[/QUOTE

add vodka to each tank and empty the rank each weekend when we leave the boat. Reccomended be marinemax LOTO

Interesting...I don't empty my tank each week, but I do run all of my water thru a Boji water softener/filter.

Do you keep your boat at MM at LOTO?

We all know that chlorine bleach is corrosive. Obviously the concentration is key. Consider using vinegar, about 2 oz per gallon. I started using that after talking to two HVAC technicians. Used to add bleach to my condensate drain line and was told by two different companies they no longer recommend that. Highly recommend vinegar due to less potential for corrosion. Started doing the same with the water supply on my boat. Water stays fresh and no unpleasant odor if the concentration gets too high. The acidity controls bacteria. Do I have any proof that bleach can harm a boat's freshwater system? Nope. But if a less corrosive option like vinegar works well, why not reduce the potential for damage? IMHO.

Since I blow my water system out, no pink, I don't need to flush. I only add bleach if the water sits in the tank too long.

I use Camco from Walmart in every fill of the tank, and we only use the water from the tank, never the hook up. We drink the water and use it for everything. We go through about 75 gallons a weekend. For 100 gallons of water you use about 2/3 cup of the Camco water purifier. I believe the Camco is equivalent to household bleach, but it is diluted. It has very little smell and doesn't feel slimy when straight on your hand like household bleach does. If you look at the recommended amount of bleach for storage and purification of water, it is 1/8 teaspoon for a gallon which equates to 1/4 cup for 100 gallons. So it seems the Camco stuff is 1/3 household bleach and 2/3 water. At least that's my guess.
