Not a watch story, but jewelry and funny in hind site. When I got married I was operating equipment and a passable mechanic. We had a skid steer break a chain. This was 2 weeks after my wedding and I never took my ring off, even at work. Anyway, I took the top cover off on the side that was broken to repair the chain. Before fishing the chain out of the oil I thought I better take off my ring. The chains and gears are submerged in gear oil. So I went to put my ring on my key chain and dropped it in the open cover and it sank in the oil. I spent the rest of the day tearing down that whole side of the skid steer, draining the oil and found my ring. Then I had to fix the chain and reassemble everything and refill with 3 gallons of gear oil. I was NOT going to leave until I found the ring, couldn't explain that to my wife of 2 weeks. My employer was kind enough to pay me for all the hours spent. Never wore my ring to work again.Through my working life I always wore inexpensive watches. I would wreck a watch in a year so there was no point in having a good watch for everyday wear and I couldn’t stand to be without one. I would always just scrub the watch right along with my arms and hands with the Go-Jo to get the grease and diesel off of it before leaving work and then wear it in the shower when I got home. Still do the same thing. Old dogs I guess.
To bring this back to watches, my Tag takes an absolute beating and still looks the same as the day my wife gave it to me.
