Watches

I have this best friend Rob who is a crazy over the top Rolex and rare watch collector. He has them registered somewhere and he gets a call one day from a guy who wants one of his vintage Rolex’s….. the guy has identical twins graduating university. He wanted to give them both identical vintage Rolex’s as a graduation gift….he already had the one and Rob had the same watch and he wanted to buy it….. only because of the story Rob sold him the watch.

Another story Rob owns a number of truck dealerships. His head sales guy won sales manager of the year for North America …as a gift the manufacturer gave him a Tag watch.. they are walking beside a river downtown in a city in Texas…. Rob says to Tim let me see that watch…. Tim takes it off and gives it to him. Rob says this is a piece of shit and throws it in the river….. Tim is shocked and pissed….. He did it right in front of a jewelry store on purpose. Rob took Tim in the store and bought him a Rolex and said now you have a watch….. crazy shit.
That’s all my watch stories

I want to work for Rob.

Selling a vintage Rolex because of its unique story is a testament to how much sentimental value can be attached to these watches. And the whole Tag watch river toss? That's some next-level boldness right there!
If you're still on the hunt for watches or just looking for something unique, I recently stumbled upon a rather interesting option – the Rolex clone 1.1m. Now, I'm not here to promote anything, but it might be worth considering if you want a distinctive timepiece. It's always cool to have a conversation starter on your wrist, right?

Daughter has a Rolex. Her former manager bought it for her as a bonus. Her and I think 2 other girls all got them the same day. Hers was $14,000. He took them to a local jeweler and told them to pick one out each. At the time she was a financial advisor and their manager made money based on their performance so he had a policy if a first year advisor met a certain goal he would buy them a Rolex. She no longer works there but still has the watch....lol

I'm thinking I'm a dying breed. I still wear a real wristwatch. Not a smartphone on the wrist. Something with a dial, hands and numbers.

What brings this up? I just replaced a Citizen Blue Angels watch that crapped out. Probably from my own screw-up. I didn't wear it for close to a year during the shutdown and it didn't get enough light to keep it running and it stopped for probably 4 months before I realized it.

So I bought a new one yesterday. Not a Blue Angels though but a chronograph style again. It's not an expensive high end job but nice.
My son did this with a Citizens watch I bought him. He call Citizens and for about $15 in shipping they fixed it and sent it back to him. He loves a good chronograph.

My wife bought me a Tag Mariner in 2002. I still wear it today. I did have to send it to the factory for a refresh. But Rolexes need the same to make sure they stay waterproof. If Rob threw my Tag in the river, I'd drop him and throw him in after it.:D There is not a scratch on the face of my watch and I wear it when I am working on my boat.

As far as the Apple Watch......no way I want another piece of technology to deal with. I absolutely don't care about messages and calls on my wrist! My wife and kids keep trying to get me to wear one. Timex for me...it does what is supposed to do...tell time. No worries, no instructions, no updates and no issues.
