Anyone had any luck using them to re-color dash vinyl?

Mines showing its age and for some reason there like 3 different colors right now.

Ive done some door panels in older cars before with good results but not sure how the paints work with soft vinyl.

I'm hoping to cover the blue with an off white.

I was thinking about trying Color Bond.

They actually have a color called "Searay off white"

just got done using SEM vinyl dye on my back to back seats. Good results and I have used Mar-Hyde in the past successfully. Make sure whatever you use this on is REALLY clean. A wax/grease remover is usually recommended and I have used enamel reducer as well. An automotive paint supply should be able to help you out and Summit Racing carries SEM in aerosol cans. I believe they even have a Sea Ray color or two. Good Luck.

I just ordered some last week and still waiting on it to come in. Just getting tired of scrubbing the seats EVERY OTHER WEEK.
I will post before and after pics when I'm finished at least one seat
I just checked my receipt and the name of the site is "Colorbondtuner.com". Any one ever heard of these guys?

Checked Summit Racing. They carry VHT and Colorbond. Colorbond is available in 3 Sea Ray colors. Just search Keyword for Vinyl Dye on their site and the colorbond says it is also available to be tinted although you would have to find a supplier that can mix it.

I am coloring mine in the next couple of weeks but I think I am going the way of Gary and doing Sunbrella fabric in the next year or two. Vinyl Sucks!

I was about to order some of the sea ray off white color bond but i think I better hold off a bit.
Might need to re-think my color scheme. I was planning on doing the dash in an offwhite as well as redoing my fake wood laminated panels in off white and im afraid i might over do the white.

By the way found some pretty good prices on the colorbond here.........

I just got my paint in the other day and tried it on a old wheelchair in my warehouse, and I have to say that I am impressed. On the way to the marina now to take off my cushions and bringing them back to my warehouse to do them inside so as not to get overspray all over the boat.

Sounds good.....Keep us updated.

Im curious how much coverage you get out of a can so I know how much to order.

The paint DID match, but, there seemed to be some junk in the paint cans cause now the seats are not smooth like they used to be. I think if I had to do it over I would order the raw paint, filter it a couple of times and use a spray gun.

OK, I Finally figured out how to post these pictures!!!

Smaller Section just Sprayed IMG_0062.jpg

nice work: looks good to me ,thanks for posting i will do mine soon.

WOW looks great. I ordered some SEM paint online that should get here this week.

Thanks for the pics...Did you just do one coat on the cushions?

I tried the Parasol spray cans but they had an issue with the propellant having a reaction with the dye. They sent me a can of dye and a spray gun. I still have not sprayed the cushions since we are too busy cruising. This will be attempted later in the fall.

I think if you order the "raw" paint and spray it with a gun and compressor setup, you will get way better results.
When I sprayed my cushions, the cans seemed to choke up and spit out paint several times. I shook them to no end but they still didn't function like I thought they would.
Kind of like coughing and spitting a couple of times.
Like I said earlier, raw paint mix, filter it a couple of times, then use a spray gun to get even flow.

I hope this helps.

This summer I used Vinyl Spray paint from an Auto store to change the color of my cabin from hideous Baby Blue to White. It looks great. My next project is to painting the upstairs helm to a lighter tan or White.
Good luck the job is worth it

The seats have a kind of rough feel to them now. I like the look, but the feel is just not the same. None of my guests have said any negative comments about the feel, but, I guess it's just the "OCD" in me:smt017
