Videos?

Great video - I have made a few videos myself of our journey to the Statue of Liberty from CT. We have always fueled up at Liberty Landing Marina. We usually only go a few miles up the Hudson, to about the Intrepid, so I think we are missing out on other sites. Is there a good marina w/transient docks for a walk around the city up the Hudson a bit?

BTW - we always eat lunch in Port Washington. It is really nice there and not too far from where you are.

Thanks for the videos.

Mark

Mike is offically on my ignore list till further notice! Not only is he getting his boat out on the water he has to rub in in by posting these videos!

He is even further north than me!

baseball....Lacrosse.....soccer...........ARRRRRGH!

I thought long and hard about where to put the grille and this is where I decided it would go. After using it, I like it there. It's out of the way, it's out of the boat. Any splatter lands on the swim platform and not in the boat.

As far a docks in the city, the only two I know of are Chelsea Piers and 79th st Boat basin. Both have transient docking but are more pricey than most. Further up the Hudson, there are many marina's where you can pull into. I recommend visiting boatingonthehudson.com or picking up one of their mags. lots of info on the hudson in those mags and they're free.

I haven't been any further than Newburgh yet, but from what I hear, it gets nicer and nicer the further up you go. We have a few here that are much further north that can chime in about it.

Am I the only one with a video camera? or just the only one out on the water?

My camera shoots avi files which I can edit with Microsoft Movie Maker but my music (for background like yours) is all in Itunes and Movie Maker won't let me use the files. Is there a free/cheap video editor that will work with AVI files and AAC audio files?

you will have to convert your AAC files into wav files to be able to import them into movie maker. There should be plenty of freeware programs you can download to do the conversion. If most of your songs were purchased through the itunes store, then you have copy protection to deal with, but if you just imported the songs into itunes from CD's, then you should have no problem. If you google AAC to wav conversion, you should see a lot of options. Another option is to just pop a CD in your drive, and import it into movie maker.

If you save your music as MP3's most Video programs will use those. I use Pinnnacle Studio and it woks well, but it requires MPS or WAVs. WAVs are a lot bigger files and take up a heck of a lot of HD Memory.

Mike I like it. Nice calm conditions and sunny skies.
Time for me to get that Video Camera, and a cool Outback hat.
I think the location for your Q is a good one too. If we get a 260DA, I would install it back there as well. Have you considered a Larger propane bottle with the hose?

The hat is KEY.

it's actually my lucky hat that i've had for a long long time. Nothing ever goes wrong when I wear the hat. I recommend one.

Never looked into a bigger tank with a hose. I'm kind of saving what little space I have left in the locker back there for a dingy engine.

Plus those little tanks are really pretty cheap and seem to last a good while. Now that they lifted the ban on them in manhattan, pretty easy to get most anywhere. but if you get a big tank, take some pics so we can see.

Thanks - BTW I am 2 weeks away so you have us all envious

Great videos Mike! The soundtracks are killer. And the hat is definately key.

Ok, my wife and I got some good laughs from your dog on the boat. See, our Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a total nut when it comes to water. I'm talking literally moaning, trembling with excitement when she gets that close to it. She's always trying to get overboard and into it. Our dog sleeping on the boat, let alone the SWIM PLATFORM?!! Oh my goodness, if only in our dreams. She would literally be freaking out, no matter what we try.

Oh, and she's 8 years old; not anything new to her. She's just never outgrown it...go figure. The only video I ever put on YouTube was one of her, here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOwmJyNWuUI . If you watch, you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about at the very end. And this was after an entire hour of her swimming, while I tried to get different angles and shots. :smt101

TT....I just bought a Panasonic GS85 camcorder. (Cheap, but does the job nicely for my needs). Do you have a video editing software preference you like? I'm going to give video editing on my PC a try. (I don't own a Mac).
-Mike

I'm a mac guy so a PC recommendation would be pretty useless for you from me. But when you do have something ready to go, drop me a PM and i'll give you the youtube login info for you to upload the video.

Hey if you have WindowsXP, give Windows Movie Maker 2 a shot. Its an easy and quick way to do some minor editing. Seems powerful enough for basic stuff (titles, cuts, edits, subtitles, audio, etc). Included with XP. Not sure what they give you with Vista...
