Had to replace one of the toilet seals on our 400 Sedan Bridge during summer holidays last year. Figured I'd capture the glory of the event and share it with the world :) Hope it sheds some light on this straightforward project and that it might help someone else.

Nice video. Still looks like it takes a while and like you said, tight quarters.

As far as boat projects go, this is about as easy and quick as it gets. We installed a complete kit last year (ball, Teflon seal and all) but we reached a point this year where it just would not hold water even after several cleanings and liberal coats of Vaseline. We removed the toilet and found that there was a huge lime buildup around the seal that John just replaced. We simply removed this mineral buildup, re-installed the same seal and re-installed the toilet. It works like a champ again. I think that I will install a pre-filter ahead of my FW pump as there is a mineral buildup in the pump's strainer that I will have to clean out this weekend. Great video John ... this is definitely a DIY project that most everyone can do if you own and know how to operate a screwdriver.

Thanks for the great "Head" video! When are you going to replace the duckbill valves? It would make a great "Head II Video"!!

Did it twice this summer... :smt021

The replacement I had was a discontinued item with the thinner gasket made with the same rubber as in the thicker one. It just worked for one week!

then I realized there was a new gasket combo like the one shown on the video from Boogaboo. If I can add something to this useful tutorial, please check the new gaskets you are about to fit!

Thanks, John. Probably 30 minutes all together, including cleanup - yes, the tools get a full wash down after a job like this ;-) Tight quarters for a 6'-2" boy like myself, and throw in the fact we was tied to a floating dock at a popular spot on beautiful Georgian Bay, Ontario and that added to the fun. No worries though, as I like to be presented with these little tasks while many miles and days from home. Something about self reliance, I guess. . .

Oh, brother - you obviously missed the video I posted here last week (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P426uCxvvus&feature=share&list=UUCu_g5uzsn3EpGKPHzd_Zhw). I was in no mood to set up the GoPro camera for that one, I just wanted to get if fixed!!

That said, I will do my best to film the next one. I do have a holding tank replacement to do, after haulout (sigh) this fall, so I will get that on film and post it here when it's all done. And the tools are cleaned ;-) . . . . Reminds me, I gotta still post the video I took when I installed my funky new holding tank monitor last year. OR, you can go visit my YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/boogabooster) for the 400 (!!) boating related vids I got up there, so far. . .

Thanks for putting up the video.

This kind if stuff really helps us newbies

Newbies?? We all started somewhere :-/ Happy to help out. Many times I have sought info on my own boating projects over the years (this is why I signed up here) and have always walked away with the thought 'that don't look too difficult & if I screw it up REALLY badly, I can alway=s hire someone to fix it'. So far, so good - no major f*** ups. Yet ;-)

Check out some of my other psoits here for more, hopefully helpful 'head's up' helping vids - with more to come . . .

I hear ya! First full year we had this boat (2011), I replaced both toilet seals. Since then, I've re-done both with the newer style ones. So far they are working fine and we use 'our' toilet regularly (no pun intended). Even though we are a short stroll away from the washrooms at our marina, we use the comfort of our own facilities (toilets, shower, etc.) four days a week, all throughout the season. As far as I'm concerned, that is why we spent the last 15 years (and all of our $$) moving up to bigger and bigger boats - for the comfort.

Oh man, that reminds me that I still gotta get my video posted here from our visit to the Palm Coast, Florida plant to see where our Sedan Bride was built. THAT was cool :)

I love watching their videos. Not only learn a lot but it helps get me through the horrible Michigan winter

how funny my seal failed this weekend ! Cant view the video though : (

I’m having an issue right now. I’m not sure if it’s the seals or the duck bills. The pump runs when the master is used. But the pressure is good. So I’m thinking the seals since I’m getting pressure. In its’ 16 years, no one has ever pooped on this boat. Really. So I’m going to try the seals first. Plus, they are easier!

Here’s the video. It’s a good one.

When I changed my seals, I found that I didn't have to remove the fresh water line from the valve in the back. I just gently "rolled the bowl forward" and was able to access the seal and ball valve. Just a tip.

Do you have a part number or a link to the seals? Or are all vacuflush seal kits the same?
