I have Vacuflush and have been stocked up for a couple seasons with Dometic Sealand Green holding tank additive. The stores no longer carry. What are you using with your Vacuflush system that is safe and breaks down the waste?

I've not used anything for five years, just control the TP to sea land, and dump before its full. The charcoal filter will work a very long time if not flooded with crud.

If you want to keep a happy head, every 18-24 months (in the south) while at the pump out empty your tanks, then open up the top and power hose out the tank, spray clean the floats etc. break up any paper mats or clumps. Then refill the tank with fresh water and the pump pump out.

Chang the duck bills as indicated and you will have a happy head.

I buy the blue RV stuff at Walmart. I'm not sure it does anything - probably doesn't - but it makes me feel better.
Just don't buy it at West Marine. RIP OFF. Get your TP for RVs at Walmart too.

You do not need to add any chemicals except what you might use to clean the bowl.

What does it mean when you say "change the duck bills"?

This is a part of the system. They only last so long, 3-5 years.

They sell kits.

When you hear the pump running and running it’s a good chance that the issue is worn out duckbill valves.

They look like a ducks bill.

Your system has 4 total of these, two just before the pump and two just after the pump.

Changing them is a $hitty job, LOL!

Slight correction.
Your system has 6 duck bills.
4 on the suction pump (2 inline before the pump and 2 inline after the pump) and 2 on the overboard discharge pump (1 inline before and 1 inline after the pump).
You probably don't use the discharge pump but, while your there its a good idea to change all of them.

What is a overboard discharge pump? Just kidding, I know what it is.

The person asking the question is in Minnesota. I am in Wisconsin. If, and that is a big IF the boat is equipped with an overboard discharge pump it must be tied off.

It’s not like on the coast, you can’t go a few miles into the inland waterway, even Lake Michigan, and discharge your black water.

Boats around here rarely have this system. I concede your point for ocean going vessels.
